Chapter 14 - THE WAREHOUSE

The warehouse stood in an industrial district near the river.

Agents entered before sunrise.

The main floor contained medical equipment, fake identification documents, and dozens of surveillance photographs.

Several images showed wealthy families connected to Whitmore Industries.

Julian had been collecting secrets for blackmail.

In a locked office, agents found Sophie Grant.

She was alive but severely dehydrated.

She had been held for eleven days.

Sophie confirmed Elena’s story.

She had helped place the ultrasound in Cynthia’s bag.

She also smuggled the hospital wristband into the nursery.

Julian discovered her betrayal.

Before he could move her, he was forced to flee toward Blackwater Lake.

Sophie provided one more piece of evidence.

A recording device hidden in her shoe contained a conversation between Julian and Richard.

Richard had visited the warehouse three months earlier.

In the recording, Julian demanded full control of the company.

Richard refused.

Julian threatened to reveal that Alexander’s marriage to Vanessa was invalid because Elena remained alive.

Richard responded with words that shocked everyone.

“You should have finished Elena three years ago.”

Alexander heard the recording at the prosecutor’s office.

His father had not merely concealed the truth.

He had expected Elena to die.

Richard claimed the statement was meant to calm Julian.

No one believed him.

The district attorney added conspiracy charges.

The Whitmore board removed Richard from every company position.

Alexander stepped down temporarily as chief executive.

He announced that an independent committee would investigate every trust, payment, and contract connected to his family.

The company’s stock fell sharply.

Reporters surrounded the hospital.

Some called Elena the true Whitmore heiress.

Others treated her trauma like entertainment.

Elena asked Marcus to release one statement.

“I am not returning to reclaim a mansion.”

“I am reclaiming my name, my child, and the years stolen from me.”

That evening, Cynthia requested a meeting with Elena.

She claimed she possessed evidence that could convict Julian of crimes far beyond the kidnapping.

In exchange, she wanted protection.

Elena agreed to listen.

Cynthia entered the interview room in handcuffs.

She placed a small key on the table.

“My mother left one final recording,” she said.

“Richard has spent twenty-five years making sure nobody hears it.”
