Chapter 4 - ISABEL’S TRUST
Isabel Torres had not come from wealth.
She had been a pediatric surgeon who spent most of her income supporting rural clinics.
After her death from cancer four years earlier, Alejandro placed her life-insurance payment and personal assets into a protected trust for Valentina.
The trust had grown to nearly sixty million dollars.
Alejandro managed it temporarily.
If he died or became legally incapacitated, guardianship determined who controlled the investments until Valentina turned twenty-five.
Mónica knew that.
Ricardo knew something more.
The trust owned twelve percent of Torres International Hotels.
Those shares could decide control of the company during a divided board vote.
Ricardo’s documents claimed Alejandro suffered emotional instability after Isabel’s death.
They described obsessive travel.
Irrational business decisions.
Paranoid security measures.
Mónica intended to portray herself as the stable parent.
The camera recordings showed her building a case.
She provoked Valentina.
She filmed the child crying afterward.
She administered sedatives.
Then she created written reports describing hallucinations and aggressive behavior.
Dr. Camila Robles signed them.
Alejandro searched the doctor’s name.
Camila operated a private child-behavior clinic outside Guadalajara.
She had never been approved by Valentina’s regular pediatric team.
Financial records showed Torres household accounts paid her almost two hundred thousand dollars.
The next video showed Camila examining Valentina in the mansion.
She did not perform a real evaluation.
She asked leading questions.
“Your father frightens you when he becomes angry, correct?”
Valentina shook her head.
Camila looked toward Mónica.
Mónica crossed her arms.
Valentina changed her answer.
“Yes.”
“Do you wish you could live only with Mónica?”
Valentina looked at the floor.
Mónica tapped one fingernail against the table.
“Yes,” Valentina whispered.
The tapping had been a signal.
Alejandro remembered hearing it during business calls.
He had assumed Mónica was impatient.
Now he understood that Valentina heard it as a warning.
Javier copied every file to three secure servers.
Alejandro contacted federal and state prosecutors through the family’s legal counsel.
He did not call Mónica.
He did not confront Ricardo.
He watched until sunrise.
The final recording had been captured only hours before he returned.
Mónica stood inside Valentina’s room holding the antique vase.
She placed it near the edge of the table.
Then she called the child.
“Valentina, come here.”
Valentina entered.
Mónica pushed the vase with one finger.
It shattered.
Then she screamed:
“Look what you’ve done.”
