Mónica’s attorneys changed their strategy.
They stopped denying the abuse.
They blamed Ricardo.
Mónica claimed her brother controlled her finances.
She said he threatened to kill her if she refused to discipline Valentina.
She described herself as another victim.
The hidden cameras showed something else.
Mónica often acted alone.
She invented punishments Ricardo never requested.
She smiled while eating dinner in front of Valentina.
She selected which toys to remove.
She created the vase scene because she wanted Alejandro to believe the child was destructive.
In one recording, Ricardo told her to avoid visible injuries.
Mónica answered:
“She needs to remember who matters.”
That sentence destroyed the defense built around fear.
Rosa testified before the grand jury.
She described Mónica’s private rules.
Valentina could not say Isabel’s name.
She could not enter Alejandro’s study.
She could not eat dessert if Alejandro called from a business trip.
She had to refer to Mónica as Mother during public events.
If she forgot, Mónica removed a meal.
The cruelty was systematic.
It was designed to replace Isabel and weaken Valentina’s sense of identity.
Detective Mendoza found photographs Mónica had altered.
Isabel had been removed from family pictures.
Mónica placed herself beside Alejandro and Valentina.
The images were not intended for decoration.
They were included in future custody filings to suggest Mónica had always been the child’s primary parent.
Valentina’s school records had also been changed.
Mónica listed Alejandro as unavailable.
She removed Rosa from emergency contacts.
She added Ricardo.
A teacher remembered Valentina arriving hungry twice.
When the teacher called, Mónica claimed the child refused food for attention.
The school accepted the explanation.
Alejandro met with the principal.
“I am not asking you to apologize to me.”
“I am asking what changes for the next child.”
The school created private wellness checks when caregivers repeatedly report behavior problems without medical support.
No child would be interviewed in front of the person accused of causing fear.
