Chapter 20 - THE LAST HIDDEN RECORDING

On Valentina’s eighteenth birthday, Alejandro gave her control of Isabel’s trust.

Not direct control of every asset.

Isabel’s structure required independent financial advisers until Valentina turned twenty-five.

But the voting voice became hers.

At the board meeting, directors expected her to support Alejandro automatically.

She did not.

She questioned a hotel development near protected farmland.

She demanded new environmental studies.

Alejandro watched her challenge the company founded by his grandfather.

He felt proud.

Not because she agreed with him.

Because she did not need to.

That evening, they celebrated at the yellow house.

Rosa brought a cake shaped like a butterfly.

Javier attended with his grandchildren.

Dr. Serrano brought discounted flowers because Valentina remembered that simple gifts mattered more than price.

After dinner, an encrypted email arrived.

The sender was unknown.

The attachment came from the hidden mansion archive.

Alejandro believed every file had been reviewed.

This one had been scheduled for release on Valentina’s eighteenth birthday.

Isabel appeared on the screen.

She was seated inside her hospital room.

“If Valentina is watching this, then she survived the people I feared.”

Valentina took Alejandro’s hand.

Isabel continued.

“Ricardo Salazar was not acting alone.”

“He answered to someone inside Torres International.”

“The person wanted my shares, Alejandro’s position, and eventually Valentina’s vote.”

A photograph appeared.

It showed Ricardo meeting an older man outside the contaminated coastal property.

Alejandro recognized him.

Sebastián Torres.

Alejandro’s father.

The man believed to have died in a plane crash twelve years earlier.

Valentina stared at the screen.

“Grandpa is alive?”

The video changed.

A recent surveillance image appeared beneath Isabel’s message.

Sebastián stood outside Casa Mariposa only three days earlier.

He was older.

But unmistakable.

A final line appeared on the screen.

THE SALAZARS WERE ONLY THE FAMILY HE HIRED.

THE TORRES FAMILY STARTED THIS.

Alejandro looked toward the open windows of the yellow house.

The main conspiracy had ended.

Mónica and Ricardo could never harm Valentina again.

But Isabel’s final warning reached beyond them.

Valentina closed the laptop.

She did not tremble.

She was no longer the six-year-old child kneeling among broken glass.

“Tomorrow,” she said, “we find out why he came back.”

Alejandro nodded.

May you like

“Together.”
