The prosecution played Richard’s recordings.
The courtroom heard Eleanor discuss the crash.
They heard Victor explain how Richard would be removed before police arrived.
They heard Charles arrange the false clinic identity.
They heard Judge Bell promise to seal any legal challenge.
Eleanor listened without expression.
Her defense blamed Richard.
They described him as controlling and unstable.
They claimed he invented the conspiracy to punish his wife.
Then Olivia testified.
She described Saint Aurelia.
The threats.
The false funeral.
The years spent under a new name.
Eleanor’s attorney attacked her memory.
“You were under emotional stress.”
“I was drugged by people my mother hired.”
“You cannot prove Mrs. Whitmore knew.”
Olivia looked at Eleanor.
“She visited the room where they kept my father.”
“She looked me in the eyes and said I would join him if I spoke.”
The courtroom became silent.
Rosa testified next.
She admitted helping Victor before turning against him.
The defense called her a liar.
She agreed.
“I lied for years.”
“Then I began recording the truth.”
The recordings supported every major detail.
Claire took the stand on the fourth week.
She described the audit.
Eleanor’s threat against Owen.
Her disappearance.
Eli’s birth.
Richard’s return.
The gala staircase.
Eleanor’s attorney showed the jury old reports accusing Claire of theft.
Then the prosecutor presented the original transaction logs.
Eleanor’s terminal authorized the transfer.
Claire’s account had been accessed remotely.
The signature was copied.
The attorney tried another direction.
“You returned to the gala intending to expose Mrs. Whitmore publicly.”
“Yes.”
“You wanted to humiliate her.”
“I wanted Ethan to hear the truth where she could not make me disappear quietly.”
“You hated her.”
“I feared her.”
“And now?”
Claire looked at Eleanor.
“Now I understand her.”
“What does that mean?”
“She believed every person had a price.”
“Some people wanted money.”
“Some wanted status.”
“Some wanted safety.”
“She built control by discovering what they feared losing.”
“What did you fear losing?”
“My brother.”
“My son.”
“My life.”
“And what do you fear now?”
Claire thought of Eli playing catch with Ethan.
“Silence.”
Eleanor testified against her attorney’s advice.
She claimed Richard was destroying the company.
She claimed Saint Aurelia protected him from himself.
She claimed Olivia disappeared voluntarily.
She claimed Claire seduced Ethan to gain access to the family.
The prosecutor asked one final question.
“Did you push Claire Mason down the staircase?”
Eleanor looked toward the jury.
“She would not leave.”
“That was not the question.”
Eleanor’s voice became cold.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because she should never have come back.”
