Chapter 7 - THE EMERGENCY BOARD MEETING
Nora entered Hale Meridian headquarters with her shoulder supported by a sling.
Charles walked beside her.
He stopped before the boardroom doors.
“You go in first.”
“You founded the trust.”
“You founded the company.”
Nora entered alone.
Fourteen directors sat around the table.
Daniel occupied the chair at the far end.
His suspension should have prevented him from attending.
He had obtained a temporary court order allowing him to defend his position.
Celeste was not present.
Her father, Harrison Arden, sat beside Daniel as outside counsel.
Daniel looked at Nora’s injuries.
He showed no remorse.
“You brought your father to take my company.”
Nora sat across from him.
“My father is outside.”
“I am here.”
Chairman Robert Sloan opened the meeting.
Daniel’s attorney challenged the trust.
He argued that Nora had not actively managed the company in three years.
He described her ownership as ceremonial.
Nora placed the original operational plans on the table.
“My routing model remains the core of Hale Meridian’s platform.”
“Our first patents carry my name.”
“The contracts Daniel claims to have created were negotiated using my family’s collateral.”
She turned toward the directors.
“I stepped away from daily leadership after Lucy was born because Daniel promised we were partners.”
“I did not surrender ownership.”
Daniel laughed.
“You attended charity lunches while I ran a national corporation.”
Nora opened another file.
It showed her private work during those years.
Crisis plans.
Hospital partnerships.
Employee-care proposals Daniel rejected.
She had continued contributing.
He had removed her name.
Charles entered only when the trust provision was discussed.
The language was clear.
Any executive who intentionally harmed or threatened a direct beneficiary of the Whitmore Legacy Trust lost voting authority immediately.
Nora and Lucy were both beneficiaries.
Daniel looked toward the chairman.
“This is marital revenge.”
The ballroom recording played.
His voice filled the boardroom.
“You both deserved it.”
One director closed his eyes.
Another removed Daniel’s photograph from the company timeline displayed on her tablet.
The vote began.
Eleven directors supported his removal.
Two abstained.
Daniel voted against it.
The chairman announced the result.
“Daniel Hale is terminated as chief executive effective immediately.”
Daniel remained seated.
“You will regret this.”
Nora looked at him.
“I already regret the years I spent explaining you.”
Security approached.
Daniel stood.
Before leaving, he placed a sealed folder on the table.
“Ask Nora why Lucy’s birth certificate was changed.”
