Martin Hale handled everything nobody noticed.

Keys.
Security vendors.
Vehicle schedules.
Service entrances.
Medication deliveries.
He knew which cameras were live.
Which doors alarmed.
Which staff complained.
Claire had barely thought about him.
That was exactly why he mattered.
Police questioned him.
He denied helping Vanessa.
Then investigators found cash deposits.

Martin had given Vanessa access to employee records.
Helped intercept medical mail.

“Where is she?”
Police asked.
Martin refused.
Then they showed him the boathouse security image.
His shoulders dropped.
Vanessa was staying in an unused cottage on property once owned by Whitman Medical.
Police arrived before dawn.

Just Vanessa sitting at a kitchen table with legal files around her.
When officers entered, she said.
“You have no idea what Grant is capable of.”
