Chapter 7 — The Signature That Destroyed Everything

The ballroom no longer looked like a wedding.
The flowers were still there.
The candles were still burning.
The orchestra was still standing quietly in the corner.
But the celebration was gone.
All that remained was betrayal.
Daniel stared at the document on the table.
His signature was there.
His handwriting.
His name.
Everything looked real.
But he didn't remember signing anything that transferred control of Hayes Industries.
"No."
His voice was barely a whisper.
"This isn't possible."
Victoria smiled.
That smile frightened Emily more than her anger ever had.
Because anger was emotional.
This was calculated.
"You signed it three weeks ago."
Daniel looked at her.
"What are you talking about?"
Victoria slowly walked around the table.
"You remember the investment agreement, don't you?"
Daniel froze.
Three weeks earlier.
Victoria had convinced him to review several documents.
She said they were related to expanding the company's international division.
She told him it was normal paperwork.
She had smiled.
She had kissed him.
She had told him she trusted him.
And Daniel had trusted her.
Because he loved her.
"You hid the transfer inside another agreement," Daniel said.
Victoria tilted her head.
"Not exactly."
She leaned closer.
"You didn't read what you signed."
The room reacted immediately.
Several guests looked disgusted.
Daniel's hands tightened into fists.
"You manipulated me."
Victoria laughed softly.
"No, Daniel."
Her voice became colder.
"I understood you."
The sentence made him pause.
"You were always too confident. Too comfortable. You believed money and family name could protect you forever."
She looked at Richard.
"Your family destroyed mine."
Richard's expression hardened.
"Your father was guilty."
Victoria's smile disappeared.
"That's what you told everyone."
A heavy silence followed.
Emily watched the two families standing across from each other.
This was no longer about a wedding.
It was a war that had been waiting fifteen years.
Victoria turned toward Emily.
"And you."
Emily looked up.
"You ruined everything."
Emily didn't move.
"You ruined your own plan."
Victoria's eyes narrowed.
"No."
She stepped closer.
"You only ruined the first version."
That sentence sent a chill through Emily.
Because Victoria wasn't acting like someone who lost.
She was acting like someone who expected this.
Daniel noticed too.
"Why aren't you afraid?"
Victoria smiled.
"Because I prepared for this moment."
Then the ballroom doors opened.
Three men in expensive suits walked inside.
Everyone turned.
Daniel immediately recognized one of them.
His company lawyer.
"Mr. Hayes."
The lawyer looked uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry to interrupt."
Daniel stared.
"What are you doing here?"
The lawyer looked at Victoria.
Then lowered his eyes.
"I'm here because the transfer is legally valid."
Daniel felt like the floor disappeared beneath him.
"No."
The lawyer continued.
"The documents were filed this morning."
Richard stepped forward.
"Who authorized this?"
The lawyer hesitated.
Then answered:
"Daniel Hayes."
Everyone looked at Daniel.
But Daniel shook his head.
"I didn't."
The lawyer opened his briefcase.
"I have the video."
Daniel froze.
"What video?"
The lawyer placed a tablet on the table.
A recording appeared.
Daniel sitting in an office.
Daniel signing documents.
Daniel saying:
"I authorize this agreement."
The room went silent.
Emily watched the screen.
Something was wrong.
The video looked real.
But she noticed something nobody else did.
Daniel's eyes.
His expression.
The way he moved.
Something wasn't right.
Then Emily whispered:
"That's not him."
Everyone turned.
May you like
Victoria smiled.
Because she knew exactly what Emily had discovered.
