Chapter 3 — The Waitress Holds The Checkmate

Emily replayed the recording three times.

She couldn't believe it.

The woman in the ballroom wasn't just pretending to be pregnant.

She was planning to steal Daniel's company.

Millions of dollars.

Years of his family's work.

Everything.

And she was doing it with a fake smile and a white wedding dress.

Emily finally understood.

The glass.

The napkin.

The humiliation.

None of it was random.

Victoria had noticed her.

She knew Emily was dangerous.

Because Emily was the only person who had accidentally heard the truth.

Emily returned to the ballroom.

But something had changed.

She wasn't the scared waitress anymore.

She was the only person in the room who knew what was coming.

Victoria saw her.

And smiled.

A confident smile.

A victorious smile.

Because she believed she had won.

"Are you leaving?" Victoria asked.

Emily looked directly into her eyes.

"No."

The bride's smile faded slightly.

"I think you should."

Emily didn't answer.

Instead, she walked toward Daniel.

The room became quiet again.

Daniel looked confused.

"Emily?"

She took out her phone.

"I need you to watch something."

Victoria's face changed.

For the first time that night...

real fear appeared.

"Daniel, don't."

Everyone noticed.

Because that reaction made no sense.

If Emily was lying...

why was Victoria afraid?

Daniel looked at his bride.

Then at the phone.

And pressed play.

The ballroom heard the first few seconds.

Victoria's voice.

Clear.

Undeniable.

The crowd went silent.

Victoria moved forward.

"Turn it off."

Daniel didn't move.

The recording continued.

And every second destroyed another piece of the perfect image Victoria had created.

Her fake pregnancy.

Her plan.

Her betrayal.

The groom's expression slowly changed.

Confusion.

Shock.

Pain.

Then anger.

The same man who had smiled proudly five minutes earlier now looked like he didn't recognize the woman standing beside him.

Victoria's lips trembled.

"Daniel..."

But he stepped back.

"Is it true?"

No one answered.

Because everyone already knew.

Then something unexpected happened.

Victoria smiled.

Not a scared smile.

Not a guilty smile.

A dangerous one.

"You think this changes anything?"

Daniel froze.

Victoria looked around the room.

At the guests.

At the cameras.

At the phones recording.

Then she said:

"You all think Emily saved you?"

She laughed softly.

"But she doesn't know what I know."

Emily felt a chill.

Victoria looked directly at her.

And whispered:

"You should have checked who hired you."

The room went silent.

Because Emily suddenly realized something.

She had never told Victoria her name.

She had never told Victoria anything.

So how did Victoria know exactly who she was?

And why did she look so confident?

Then Daniel's phone rang.

He looked down.

The caller ID appeared.

His face turned pale.

Because the person calling...

May you like

was Emily's employer.

And the message waiting for him would change everything.
