Hailey had taken her camera to the secret clinic.
She remembered waking briefly during the procedure.
Her bag rested beneath a chair.
She heard Mark and Voss arguing.
Voss cut his hand while opening a capsule container.
A drop of blood landed on the blanket.
Later, when Mark returned her belongings, a loose thread clung to the camera strap.
Hailey kept it because something about the clinic frightened her.
She did not know it would become evidence.
The DNA identified Voss.
It also revealed a family relationship no one expected.
Elias Voss was Mark’s half brother.
Their mother had been one of Conrad Adler’s first research subjects.
She died during an unauthorized trial.
The brothers grew up believing Conrad stole their mother’s life.
They entered Acheron to destroy him.
Instead, they inherited his obsession.
Mark wanted the security technology.
Voss wanted to prove genetic memory could preserve their mother.
They used other children to continue the work.
Hailey was the final subject because David had created the most stable biological lock.
Detective Brooks traced Voss’s relatives to an old psychiatric hospital purchased by Acheron.
The property had tunnels, independent power, and a private surgical wing.
Police believed Mark had gone there.
Before the operation began, Maya Collins disappeared from her rehabilitation center.
Security footage showed her walking willingly toward a black car.
She left behind a note.
MARK SAYS HE CAN REMOVE THE REST OF IT.
Maya still carried microscopic material from her capsule.
She believed Mark could cure her.
Hailey blamed herself.
“I told her about the headaches.”
“She was scared.”
“Mark used that fear,” I said.
“Just like he used ours.”
Hailey looked at her camera.
Then she opened an old photograph Maya had sent.
The image showed the woman near the lake from Maya’s dreams.
A building reflected in the water behind her.
Dr. Adler recognized it.
“That is not the psychiatric hospital.”
“It is Conrad’s private laboratory.”
