Chapter 7 – The Secret Worth Millions

The room remained silent after the video disappeared.
Emily stared at the black screen.
For a moment, she didn't feel angry.
She felt empty.
Because every new truth revealed another layer of betrayal.
Her entire life had been built on secrets.
Her father lied.
Her mother stayed silent.
Her brother benefited.
And Emily had spent years believing she was the problem.
Daniel closed the laptop carefully.
"I'm sorry."
Emily looked at him.
"For what?"
"For knowing the truth and waiting this long."
His answer surprised her.
"You knew?"
Daniel lowered his eyes.
"Not everything."
"But enough."
Emily stepped back.
"How much?"
Daniel took a slow breath.
"Enough to know Richard Bennett was planning something against you."
"Enough to know your research was more valuable than anyone realized."
"But I didn't understand how far he would go."
Emily looked at Professor Hughes.
The dean's expression was serious.
"Daniel, what exactly did Emily create?"
Daniel hesitated.
Then he opened a folder on his desk.
Inside were documents.
Research papers.
Financial reports.
Patent applications.
Emily recognized the handwriting immediately.
Her own.
"This..."
She touched the papers.
"This is my original work."
Daniel nodded.
"When you were nineteen, you developed a new method of analyzing renewable energy storage."
Emily frowned.
"But my research was only theoretical."
"That's what Richard wanted everyone to believe."
Daniel placed another document in front of her.
A corporate valuation report.
Emily read the numbers.
Then froze.
"This can't be real."
"It is."
Professor Hughes leaned closer.
"What are we looking at?"
Daniel answered.
"The technology Emily developed was purchased secretly through a third-party company."
Emily's eyes widened.
"Purchased?"
"Yes."
"By who?"
Daniel looked at her.
"Bennett Holdings."
The words felt like another slap.
Her own father had stolen from her.
Not just her recognition.
Not just her opportunity.
Her future.
"He used my research."
Daniel nodded.
"And made millions."
Emily's hands trembled.
For years, she had struggled.
Working jobs.
Skipping meals.
Worrying about tuition.
Meanwhile, her father had built his empire using the very thing he tried to destroy.
Professor Hughes looked furious.
"This is intellectual property theft."
Daniel nodded.
"And possibly fraud."
Before Emily could respond, the office door suddenly opened.
A university security officer rushed inside.
"Dean Hughes."
Everyone turned.
"What happened?"
The officer looked uncomfortable.
"The livestream has gone viral."
Emily expected that.
But the officer continued.
"That's not the problem."
"What is?"
He handed Professor Hughes a phone.
"The Bennett family released a statement."
Emily frowned.
"Already?"
Professor Hughes read the statement.
Her expression slowly changed.
"What does it say?"
The dean looked at Emily.
"Your father claims you created this entire situation for revenge."
Emily didn't react.
She expected that.
Then Professor Hughes continued.
"He says you manipulated recordings."
"Stole confidential company information."
"And attempted to blackmail your family."
Daniel's face hardened.
"He's moving faster than I expected."
Emily looked at him.
"What does that mean?"
"It means Richard knew this day might happen."
Daniel opened another file.
Inside was a legal document.
"Emily..."
"He prepared a lawsuit against you."
She stared.
"A lawsuit?"
"Yes."
"For theft of intellectual property."
The room became silent.
Emily almost smiled.
It was unbelievable.
Her father stole from her.
Then planned to accuse her of stealing from him.
The oldest trick in his world.
Change the story.
Become the victim.
Make the truth look like an attack.
Professor Hughes placed the phone down.
"What are you going to do?"
Emily looked through the office window.
Outside, hundreds of people still gathered around the university.
The same place where her father slapped her.
The same place where he tried to destroy her.
She touched the graduation cap still sitting on the table.
Then she looked back.
"I'm going to finish what I started."
Daniel watched her carefully.
"And what's that?"
Emily answered quietly.
"Not destroying my family."
A pause.
"Exposing the truth."
Then her phone buzzed.
Unknown number.
One message.
A photo appeared.
Emily looked at it.
And her blood turned cold.
It was a picture of her father.
Standing beside someone she never expected to see.
Her mother.
Caroline Bennett.
But the photo was taken...
That morning.
After the graduation ceremony.
Emily whispered:
"That's impossible."
Because Caroline wasn't afraid.
She wasn't trapped.
May you like
She was meeting Richard.
And they were planning something together.
