Chapter 5 - THE FIRST DEMAND

Rhea gave me thirty minutes.

I drove alone.

Elise begged to come.

I refused.

“They want both of us.”

“They already know I'm alive.”

“That is exactly why you're staying here.”

She looked at me.

“You're not the man I married anymore.”

“What do you mean?”

“You finally stopped trusting everyone.”

I left.

The meeting place was an abandoned railway station.

Rhea stood beneath a broken clock.

Perrin sat beside her.

His hands were tied.

I nearly lost control.

“Let him go.”

Rhea smiled.

“You still care about appearances.”

“Rhea.”

“You loved me once.”

“No.”

She blinked.

“I never loved you.”

That hurt her.

Good.

She held up a phone.

“Transfer the company.”

I stared at her.

“What?”

“Your shares.”

“You want my company?”

“I want everything.”

I laughed.

“You kidnapped my son for money?”

“No.”

She leaned closer.

“I kidnapped your son because your company is worth less than what your family knows.”

Then another man stepped from the darkness.

I recognized him.

My father's former attorney.

Martin Vale.

He smiled.

“Hello, Evan.”

I felt something inside me collapse.

“My father trusted you.”

“Your father trusted no one.”

“What happened to him?”

Martin smiled.

“He didn't die naturally.”

I raised the memory card.

“Let Perrin go.”

Martin nodded.

Rhea untied him.

Perrin ran toward me.

I caught him.

Then a gunshot exploded.

Martin fell.

Rhea screamed.

A second shot shattered the station window.

Someone was firing from outside.

I dragged Perrin behind a concrete pillar.

Elise suddenly appeared.

I stared at her.

She had followed me.

“Get down!”

Another bullet struck the wall.

Then silence.

When I looked again, Rhea was gone.

Martin was dead.

May you like

And the memory card had disappeared from my hand.
