Chapter 7 - THE FILE JULIAN FEARED
Claire's father gave her a thick black file.
"This is the reason Julian lied about his death."
Claire opened it.
Inside were records of offshore accounts.
Bribery payments.
Forged documents.
Illegal acquisitions.
And one account number repeated again and again.
It belonged to Julian.
"He planned everything three years ago," her father said.
"Why fake his death?"
"To disappear with your assets."
Claire stared at the records.
"And Sophia?"
"She was useful."
"Did she know?"
"Not everything."
Claire closed the file.
"Where is Julian now?"
Her father looked at her.
"In the Vale Tower."
"Why?"
"Because he knows the investigation is coming."
"Then why isn't he running?"
"He can't."
Her father handed her another document.
A court order.
Assets frozen.
Private flights suspended.
Passports flagged.
Julian had become trapped.
Claire felt something she had not felt in years.
Control.
Her father watched her carefully.
"You don't have to do this."
Claire shook her head.
"Yes, I do."
"Why?"
"Because I spent three years believing I was the victim."
She closed the file.
"I'm ready to be the witness."
Her father smiled sadly.
