Dr. Evelyn March was not a physician.
Her medical license belonged to a woman who had died twelve years earlier.
The impostor’s real name was Lydia Crane.
She had worked with Blackstone Legacy Services since its creation.
Lydia entered wealthy homes as a private nurse.
She monitored medications, personal conflicts, and confidential conversations.
She provided Celeste and Richard with the weaknesses they needed.
Amelia had hired Lydia after suffering dizziness and fatigue.
Those symptoms began six months before the fatal crash.
Ethan remembered Amelia growing pale during dinners.
He remembered her hands trembling.
He remembered Richard recommending a specialist.
Every test returned normal.
Lydia controlled the samples before they reached the laboratory.
Detective Ortiz reopened Amelia’s medical records.
Several pages were missing.
Other results had been altered.
The investigation expanded beyond a suspicious car accident.
Someone might have been slowly making Amelia ill before her death.
The plan changed when Amelia discovered Richard’s financial scheme.
The car crash ended the risk more quickly.
Lydia had now returned because Amelia’s evidence threatened every Blackstone operation.
The silver bank key offered the next lead.
Ethan, Detective Ortiz, and Nora traveled to Manhattan.
Sophie remained with Detective Ortiz’s sister, a child psychologist who lived nearby.
Ethan trusted almost no one.
However, Sophie needed safety away from the mansion and everyone connected to Blackstone.
The private bank required a signature, the key, and a second form of identification.
Amelia had prepared for that.
Behind Sophie’s photograph was a thin transparent strip.
When placed beneath ultraviolet light, it displayed a bank authorization code.
The clerk led them into a secure room.
Deposit box B-417 contained a second photograph of Amelia.
She stood beside her damaged car one week before the crash.
A mechanic pointed toward the front wheel.
A handwritten report documented cuts along the brake line.
Amelia had discovered the damage and secretly repaired it.
The fatal crash occurred in another vehicle.
Richard convinced her to use a company sedan on the morning she died.
The box also contained hair samples, medical notes, and sealed laboratory results.
Amelia’s blood had contained traces of a sedative not prescribed to her.
Lydia had been adding it to vitamin injections.
A final envelope contained a letter for Sophie.
Ethan did not open it.
That belonged to his daughter.
Beneath the envelope was a flash card carrying one video file.
Amelia appeared on the screen.
She sat inside the bank’s private room wearing the same green coat from the photograph.
“If you are watching this, Richard succeeded in making my death look accidental.”
“I do not know whether Celeste has entered Ethan’s life yet.”
“But she will.”
“She and Richard have been legally married since 2018.”
“They call their plan the Widow’s Passage.”
“They use grief to enter families and guardianship law to control children’s assets.”
“Graham Pike protects them.”
“Lydia prepares the medical evidence.”
Amelia leaned closer to the camera.
“They are not taking Sophie to Lisbon.”
“Lisbon is the public route.”
“The real destination is Saint Agatha’s Institute near Lake Champlain.”
“Once Sophie enters under her false name, Blackstone can claim she is outside United States jurisdiction.”
Ethan stopped the video.
Saint Agatha’s stood less than twenty miles from the Vermont airfield where Lydia had landed.
His phone rang.
Sophie’s temporary security officer spoke urgently.
The child psychologist’s home had been entered through a rear window.
The officer was unharmed.
