Chapter 15 - THE EMPTY MANSION

At 11:30 p.m., every light inside the Vale estate turned on.

The gates opened.

A black SUV entered the property.

Cameras captured Adrian in the driver’s seat.

A small figure sat in the rear.

Damien watched through the compromised security network.

He sent instructions directing Adrian toward the underground garage.

The SUV stopped beneath the mansion.

Adrian stepped out.

He opened the rear door.

A child-sized form wrapped in Sophie’s pink coat remained motionless.

Damien triggered the garage lock.

Then he entered through the service tunnel.

He wore a ballistic vest.

The original Rolex was fastened around his wrist.

Celeste followed him.

She was not restrained.

Her bruises had been created with makeup.

“I told you he would bring her,” Celeste whispered.

Damien looked toward the SUV.

“Adrian always chooses guilt.”

They approached the vehicle.

Adrian stood beside the driver’s door.

“Where is Julian?”

“Federal custody,” Damien answered.

“You allowed your own brother to be arrested.”

“He made his choice.”

“So did you.”

Damien pointed a weapon toward the rear seat.

“Tell Sophie to get out.”

Adrian did not move.

Celeste stepped forward.

“Do not make this harder.”

Adrian looked at the woman he had married.

“Was any of it real?”

Celeste hesitated.

Then she smiled.

“The wedding was beautiful.”

“That was not my question.”

“You wanted a wife who made your world look complete.”

“I wanted to believe you loved my daughter.”

“I tolerated her.”

Adrian’s face became still.

Celeste shrugged.

“You gave a child more power than every adult around her.”

“She had something I needed.”

“The trust.”

“The future.”

Celeste glanced toward the covered figure.

“She will never understand what to do with that company.”

“And you would?”

“I understand that power belongs to the person willing to use it.”

Damien opened the rear door.

He pulled away the pink coat.

Beneath it was a medical training mannequin.

Every garage light flashed blue.

The doors opened.

Federal agents entered from three directions.

Damien raised his weapon.

Marcus activated an electromagnetic pulse device.

The compromised security relay died.

Damien’s smart weapon locked before it could fire.

Rebecca ordered him to the floor.

Celeste ran toward the service tunnel.

Elena stepped out from behind a concrete column.

Celeste stopped.

“You.”

Elena held Sophie’s tablet.

The tablet displayed the entire conversation live.

More than four million people were watching.

Adrian had authorized the stream through Vale Technologies’ public channel.

Celeste’s confession had been broadcast without editing.

Her comments about Sophie.

Her admission about the trust.

Her statement that the wedding had been an image.

Every word was permanent.

Celeste lunged for the tablet.

Elena stepped aside.

Celeste struck the concrete wall and fell.

This time, no one pushed her.

Agents restrained Damien.

Rebecca removed the Rolex from his wrist.

Celeste stared at Adrian.

“You planned this.”

“No,” Adrian said.

“Elena did.”

Celeste turned toward the nanny.

Hatred filled her face.

“You were nothing before I found you.”

Elena stood over her.

“I was a daughter.”

“I was a sister.”

“I was a student.”

“I was a woman working two jobs to keep my family alive.”

“You did not find me.”

“You found my debt.”

Celeste’s eyes filled with tears.

“They will destroy me.”

Elena looked toward the cameras.

“No.”

“You did that yourself.”

As agents led Celeste away, Damien began laughing.

Rebecca turned toward him.

“What is funny?”

“You think the live confession matters?”

He looked at Adrian.

“The archive is already running.”

Every television in the garage activated.

A countdown appeared.

59:59.

Damien smiled.

“In one hour, MirrorSight releases every private file it ever collected.”

The archive contained evidence against Celeste and Damien.

It also contained medical records, family locations, and private information belonging to thousands of innocent people.

Destroying the criminals’ secrets would also destroy their victims.
