Chapter 14 - THE MIRRORSIGHT ARCHIVE

Damien entered the recovery code.
The MirrorSight archive opened.
Thousands of files appeared across his screens.
Some contained stolen research.
Some contained private recordings.
Others documented payments, blackmail, and corporate surveillance.
Arthur Vale had suspected Damien years earlier.
He secretly copied the evidence and hid access behind the watch.
The archive showed Damien selling location data to private investigators.
It showed Celeste selecting vulnerable foundation recipients for manipulation.
It showed Julian signing agreements to remove Adrian as trustee.
It also contained evidence against executives, politicians, and law enforcement officers who had purchased MirrorSight information.
Damien believed the archive would make him untouchable.
He sent blackmail messages to everyone named.
Pay him, and the evidence would remain hidden.
Refuse, and the files would be released.
However, Arthur had designed one final safeguard.
Opening the archive with the physical recovery code activated a silent beacon.
The server transmitted its exact location to Adrian.
It was inside an abandoned data center beneath a Hollywood production studio.
Rebecca assembled a federal tactical team.
Adrian insisted on joining.
She refused.
Elena agreed with her.
“You are not a police officer.”
“This started in my house.”
“It started long before you knew.”
“That does not mean I stand outside.”
Elena stepped closer.
“You have spent your life believing action and control are the same thing.”
“They are not.”
“What would you have me do?”
“Protect Sophie.”
The answer stopped him again.
Sophie was staying at Claire’s hospital residence under federal protection.
She had not slept through the night since Elena left the mansion.
Adrian went to her.
Sophie was awake, holding the drawing she had made of the house.
“Is Celeste coming back?”
“No.”
“Is Elena?”
Adrian sat beside her.
“I hope so.”
“Did you fire her?”
“No.”
“Did she quit?”
“She left to protect you.”
Sophie looked at him seriously.
“People always leave to protect me.”
Her words cut deeper than accusation.
Adrian remembered his father dying while Adrian sat in a board meeting.
He remembered Sophie’s mother leaving before her second birthday.
He remembered telling himself that providing security was the same as being present.
He turned off his phone.
For the next hour, he stayed beside his daughter.
Meanwhile, Rebecca’s team entered the production studio.
The data center was empty.
Damien had anticipated the beacon.
He moved the primary server before opening the archive.
Only a relay remained.
On the relay was a recorded message.
Damien appeared on-screen.
“You inherited Arthur’s company, Adrian.”
“But I inherited his suspicion.”
“You will never find the server.”
The image shifted.
Celeste appeared sitting at a table.
Her wrists were bound.
Her face was bruised.
“I made a mistake,” she whispered.
“Damien has lost control.”
“Please help me.”
Rebecca watched the recording twice.
“Do you believe her?” Marcus asked.
Elena studied Celeste’s face.
The fear looked real.
The restraints looked real.
But Elena noticed one detail.
Celeste’s wedding ring remained on her finger.
Damien had taken her phone, her purse, and her freedom.
Yet he had allowed her to keep a diamond worth two million dollars.
“It is another performance,” Elena said.
The video ended.
A line of text appeared.
BRING SOPHIE TO THE VALE ESTATE AT MIDNIGHT.
OR CELESTE DIES.
Adrian read the demand.
Then he looked at Elena.
“She expects me to choose.”
Elena shook her head.
May you like
“No.”
“She expects you to believe those are your only choices.”
