Chapter 1 – The Footage Nobody Could Erase

Nobody breathed.
For several endless seconds, the luxury hospital suite became impossibly silent.
The only sound was the faint hum of the air-conditioning and the soft crackling of broken crystal beneath Marcus Thorne's polished shoes as he stepped farther into the room.
His eyes never left his wife.
Khloe lay curled on the marble floor, both arms wrapped protectively around the life growing inside her. Her breathing was shallow. Every inhale looked painful.
A single tear rolled down her cheek.
Marcus had seen boardrooms collapse under billion-dollar negotiations.
He had watched companies disappear overnight.
He had stared down politicians, investors, and rivals who wanted everything he had built.
Nothing had ever terrified him like this.
"Khloe..."
His voice cracked.
He rushed toward her.
Before he reached her, Isabella Rossi let out a frightened sob.
"Marcus!"
She stumbled backward dramatically, pressing trembling fingers against her own shoulder.
"I tried to stop her... she lost control..."
Marcus didn't even look at her.
His knees struck the marble floor beside his wife.
"Look at me."
Khloe slowly opened her eyes.
Pain clouded them.
"I'm here," Marcus whispered.
"I'm here."
She tried to smile.
Instead another wave of pain forced her body to tense.
Her fingers dug into his sleeve.
"The baby..."
Marcus immediately looked toward Elaine Parker.
"Call obstetrics."
Elaine had already pulled out her phone.
"They're on their way."
Within seconds alarms echoed through the private medical floor.
Doctors.
Nurses.
Security officers.
Everyone rushed toward Suite 1701.
But another figure entered behind them.
A man in his early sixties.
Silver hair.
Perfectly tailored navy suit.
Calm eyes that missed absolutely nothing.
The conversations stopped the moment people recognized him.
Richard Hale.
Chairman of Hale Medical Group.
Owner of the entire hospital.
More importantly—
Khloe's uncle.
He crossed the room without saying a word.
One glance at Khloe.
One glance at Marcus.
Then—
One glance at Isabella.
His expression never changed.
That frightened Isabella more than shouting ever could.
Richard knelt beside his niece.
"Talk to me."
"My back..."
Khloe whispered.
"And the baby..."
Richard gently squeezed her hand.
"You stay awake."
He looked toward the medical team.
"Trauma protocol."
"Now."
The staff moved instantly.
Nobody questioned him.
Nobody hesitated.
Within moments Khloe was carefully lifted onto a specialized transport bed.
Marcus refused to leave her side.
As they prepared to wheel her away, Isabella suddenly stepped forward.
"This is all a misunderstanding."
Nobody answered.
She tried again.
"Marcus... you know I'd never—"
"Stop talking."
His voice was quiet.
Too quiet.
It carried something colder than anger.
"I watched my wife lying on the floor."
Isabella swallowed.
"You don't understand what happened."
Marcus finally looked directly at her.
His blue eyes held no warmth.
"No."
He said slowly.
"I understand exactly enough."
For the first time that evening—
Isabella felt uncertain.
Not guilty.
Not afraid.
Just uncertain.
She had expected chaos.
Arguments.
Confusion.
Instead...
Everyone was ignoring her.
That wasn't how this was supposed to happen.
Twenty minutes later...
The emergency operating observation room remained sealed.
Doctors moved quickly behind the glass walls.
Marcus stood outside without moving.
His tuxedo jacket still carried dust from the marble floor.
Elaine quietly approached.
"They're doing another ultrasound."
He nodded once.
Nothing more.
Richard joined them.
"I've already reviewed preliminary reports."
Marcus looked up.
"The impact caused abdominal trauma."
Marcus clenched his fists.
"But..."
Richard continued.
"The baby's heartbeat is stable."
Marcus finally released the breath he'd been holding.
"For now."
Those two words settled heavily between them.
Richard turned toward the head of hospital security.
"Where is the surveillance archive?"
The guard hesitated.
"We're downloading everything."
"I don't want downloads."
Richard replied calmly.
"I want the original files."
"They're already secured."
Richard's eyes narrowed.
"Good."
He looked at Marcus.
"There were six cameras covering the hallway."
Marcus frowned.
"And inside the suite?"
"One."
Elaine blinked.
"I didn't know patient suites had cameras."
"They normally don't."
Richard answered.
"This room does."
Marcus waited.
Richard continued.
"The Thorne Foundation donated nearly fifty million dollars to renovate the maternity wing."
Marcus remembered.
Part of that renovation included experimental patient safety monitoring after several attacks against high-profile patients.
Discreet.
Encrypted.
Accessible only through executive authorization.
Almost nobody knew they existed.
Including Isabella.
Meanwhile...
Two floors below...
Inside a luxurious waiting lounge...
Isabella finally began to breathe normally again.
Her attorney, Daniel Cross, hurried inside.
"What happened?"
She grabbed his arm.
"We have to control the narrative."
Daniel frowned.
"Were there witnesses?"
"Marcus."
"Anyone else?"
"Elaine."
He thought for a second.
"We can work with that."
Then Isabella smiled.
A slow smile.
"Khloe pushed me first."
Daniel looked unconvinced.
"Can you prove it?"
She lifted her chin confidently.
"I don't need proof."
"I only need doubt."
He nodded slowly.
Juries loved uncertainty.
The media loved scandal.
Social media loved divided opinions.
If nobody knew exactly what happened...
Nobody could truly blame her.
At least...
That was what Isabella believed.
Back upstairs...
A young security technician inserted an encrypted drive into the hospital server.
Rows of video files appeared across the monitor.
Camera A.
Camera B.
Camera C.
Suite Interior.
Timestamp.
19:42.
Richard folded his arms.
"Play it."
The footage began.
Everyone watched in silence.
There was Khloe.
Standing alone beside the window.
There was Isabella entering without permission.
Then—
Audio.
Crystal clear.
"You were supposed to give him the child..."
"...and disappear."
Marcus felt his stomach tighten.
The room became even quieter.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody moved.
The recording continued.
Every insult.
Every threat.
Every shove.
Every kick.
Every desperate attempt Khloe made to protect her unborn baby.
Nothing was missing.
When the video finally ended...
The security technician slowly removed his glasses.
"I've worked here twelve years."
His voice barely rose above a whisper.
"I've never seen anything like this."
Richard looked at Marcus.
"The original file has already been copied to three independent servers."
Marcus nodded.
"Good."
Richard wasn't finished.
"I also instructed legal to notify the police."
Marcus stared at the frozen image on the monitor.
It showed Isabella's heel striking Khloe's side.
There would be no misunderstanding now.
No fabricated version.
No performance.
Only truth.
But none of them realized...
Someone else had already accessed the hospital network.
A hidden cursor blinked on another screen hundreds of miles away.
One command appeared.
DELETE ALL FOOTAGE
The system responded instantly.
ACCESS DENIED.
Then another message appeared.
Copy sequence detected.
External transmission initiated.
Whoever was watching suddenly understood.
The evidence was no longer inside the hospital.
It was already on its way to someone else.
May you like
And that someone...
had been waiting years for Isabella Rossi to make exactly one irreversible mistake.
