The federal indictments came four weeks later.

Richard Thorne.

Thomas Greer.

Two former Rossi Meridian executives.

Multiple charges related to fraud, conspiracy, forged financial instruments, and unlawful transfers.

Isabella accepted a plea agreement on the financial counts while still facing the assault case separately.

Elaine received reduced exposure in exchange for testimony.

Marcus was not charged with conspiracy.

Investigators concluded there was insufficient evidence that he knew Khloe’s signatures were forged.

But that did not save him publicly.

The headlines were brutal.

BILLIONAIRE HEIR SIGNED DISPUTED TRUST DOCUMENTS.

PREGNANT WIFE ATTACKED BY MISTRESS.

Marcus resigned permanently as CEO.

He did not fight the board.

He did not issue a self-pitying statement.

He simply released one paragraph.

I failed my wife personally and failed in my duty to question financial decisions made under my authority.

I am cooperating fully and will accept the consequences of those failures.

Khloe read it once.

Then put the newspaper down.

Her own life was changing faster.

The court restored control of her voting shares.

The hidden nine hundred million dollars entered recovery proceedings.

The forged prenup was declared invalid.

The collateral trust was frozen permanently.

Khloe was no longer simply Marcus Thorne’s pregnant wife in the newspapers.

She became the woman whose challenge had exposed the system.

Reporters waited outside Julian’s townhouse every morning.

Khloe ignored them.

She had more important things to do.

At thirty-five weeks, she completed the final paperwork creating the Evelyn Vale Foundation, named after her mother.

Its first commitment was two hundred million dollars for maternal healthcare programs, emergency housing, and legal assistance for women facing financial coercion.

Julian read the announcement.

“Your mother would like this.”

“She would complain about the logo.”

“She absolutely would.”

Khloe smiled.

Then her phone vibrated.

Marcus.

Can I bring the nursery chair tomorrow?

Khloe stared at the message.

He had been restoring furniture from the penthouse nursery piece by piece.

Not because she asked.

Because she had decided she would raise the baby at her own townhouse after the birth.

Marcus had accepted it.

No arguments.

No threats.

No lawyers.

Just one question.

How can I help?

Khloe typed.

Tomorrow at ten.

His answer arrived immediately.

Thank you.

She set down the phone.

Julian watched her.

“You still love him.”

Khloe sighed.

“Yes.”

“That does not mean I trust him.”

“Good.”

“Love without judgment is how people end up marrying Thornes.”

She laughed.

For the first time in months, it did not hurt.

But the final confrontation still waited.

Isabella’s sentencing hearing for the assault was scheduled in six days.
