Chapter 7: The Shadow of the Aranda Legacy

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Even the alarm that had filled the mansion seemed distant.

Alejandro stared at his mother.

“My father?”

The name felt impossible.

His father, Ricardo Aranda, had been dead for three years.

The man whose portrait hung in every important room of the mansion.

The man Alejandro had spent his entire life trying to impress.

Doña Esther slowly walked into the hallway.

“Yes.”

Valeria looked at her with disbelief.

“You knew?”

Doña Esther’s expression changed.

Not guilt.

Not regret.

Something closer to exhaustion.

“I knew everything.”

Alejandro felt anger rising in his chest.

“Then why did you let this happen?”

His mother looked at him.

“Because your father built this family on fear. And after he died, I spent years trying to protect what he created.”

“Protect?”

Alejandro laughed bitterly.

“You destroyed people.”

Doña Esther looked away.

“When your father discovered the letter, he knew the truth about the Navarro family would ruin everything.”

She pointed toward the envelope Marcela held.

“He ordered us to find it before anyone else did.”

Valeria’s face turned pale.

“And when I found it…”

“Yes,” Doña Esther interrupted.

“You became a threat.”

Alejandro looked at his wife.

The woman he once thought was hiding secrets.

The woman who had been carrying the weight of his family’s crimes alone.

“How many times did you threaten her?”

His mother didn’t answer.

She didn’t need to.

The silence was enough.

Marcela stepped forward.

“You don’t understand, Alejandro. Father sacrificed everything for this family.”

“No.”

Alejandro’s voice became colder.

“He sacrificed everyone else.”

Marcela’s face twisted.

“You would throw away billions because of her?”

Alejandro looked at Valeria.

Then at the mansion around them.

All the luxury.

All the power.

All the things he once believed mattered.

“Yes.”

The answer shocked them.

“I would rather lose every building, every company, every dollar…”

He took Valeria’s hand.

“…than become the kind of person who destroys innocent people to keep them.”

Suddenly, police lights appeared outside the mansion.

Doña Esther looked toward the window.

“What did you do?”

Alejandro calmly took out his phone.

“I sent copies of the evidence to investigators before coming downstairs.”

Marcela’s expression changed.

“You planned this?”

“No.”

He looked at Valeria.

“She taught me something.”

“What?”

“That silence only protects the people causing the damage.”

The front doors opened.

Authorities entered the mansion.

For the first time in decades, the Aranda name could not control what happened next.

As Doña Esther was escorted away, she stopped beside Alejandro.

“You think you’ve saved yourself.”

He looked at her.

“I saved my family.”

She stared at Valeria.

Then at the hand Alejandro refused to let go.

And for the first time, Doña Esther understood.

She had spent years trying to separate them.

Instead, she had created the bond that finally defeated her.

But Alejandro still had one question.

The letter.

The truth behind his grandfather.

And the reason his family had been willing to destroy so many lives.
