Chapter 3: The Son Who Finally Opened His Eyes

The bedroom door opened slowly.
Doña Esther Aranda stood there perfectly composed, wearing a silk robe and a diamond necklace as if she were entering a business meeting instead of a family crisis.
Her eyes moved from Alejandro to Valeria.
Then to the photographs scattered across the bed.
For the first time, her confident expression disappeared.
Only for a second.
But Alejandro noticed.
“Mother,” he said quietly.
Doña Esther smiled.
“What is this drama?”
That word.
Drama.
The same word everyone had used against Valeria.
Alejandro looked at his wife sitting behind him, trembling but refusing to break.
“No one touches her,” he said.
Doña Esther raised an eyebrow.
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me.”
A cold silence filled the room.
For twenty-eight years, Alejandro had been the perfect son. The man who obeyed family expectations. The man who protected the Aranda reputation above everything.
But now, he looked at his mother like a stranger.
“You knew,” he said.
Doña Esther’s face remained calm.
“Knew what?”
“That Valeria was being threatened.”
A small laugh escaped her lips.
“Your wife is manipulating you.”
Alejandro felt something inside him snap.
“Stop.”
The single word echoed through the room.
Doña Esther stared.
“You’re defending her over your own family?”
“No.”
He stepped closer.
“I’m finally defending my family.”
The words shocked everyone.
Valeria looked at him, almost unable to believe what she heard.
Doña Esther’s expression hardened.
“You have no idea what you’re doing.”
“No. I know exactly what I’m doing.”
Alejandro picked up the photographs.
“I spent two years believing my wife was unstable because you told me she was.”
“She was always emotional.”
“She was afraid.”
The truth hung between them.
Doña Esther’s eyes narrowed.
“Be careful, Alejandro.”
“Is that a threat?”
For the first time, she hesitated.
And that hesitation told him everything.
A sound suddenly came from the hallway.
Marcela.
She had been listening.
“You’re making a mistake, brother.”
Alejandro turned.
His sister walked into the room, no longer pretending to be innocent.
“You really think Valeria is telling the truth?”
Alejandro stared at her.
“You sent me the picture.”
Marcela smiled.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Her smile faded.
“Because I wanted you to finally see what kind of woman you married.”
Alejandro looked at Valeria.
Then back at his sister.
“No.”
He shook his head slowly.
“You wanted me to see what kind of family I was born into.”
Nobody spoke.
Then Alejandro’s phone rang.
The caller ID appeared.
His private investigator.
He answered.
“Tell me.”
A serious voice came through the speaker.
“Mr. Aranda… we found the original security footage from the night your wife disappeared.”
Alejandro’s heart stopped.
“Who was with her?”
A pause.
Then the investigator replied:
“Your mother.”
May you like
The room went silent.
And Doña Esther finally lost her smile.
