Chapter 1: The Truth He Wasn’t Ready To See

Alejandro expected to find evidence of betrayal.

He expected anger. Tears. Maybe a confession.

He never expected silence.

When he pulled the blanket away, the first thing he saw was not another man’s secret.

It was the bruises.

A deep purple mark wrapped around Valeria’s wrist. Another faded across her shoulder. Her oversized sweater hid the evidence she had spent weeks trying to conceal.

Alejandro froze.

The room suddenly felt smaller.

“Valeria…” His voice cracked.

She immediately covered herself, not with shame, but with fear.

That frightened him more than anything.

“Don’t,” she whispered.

“Who did this to you?”

Her eyes filled with tears she had refused to shed for days.

“You won’t believe me.”

“I’m your husband.”

She gave a broken laugh.

“Are you?”

The words struck harder than any accusation.

Alejandro stepped back. The billionaire who negotiated million-dollar deals, the man who could command entire construction projects with a single phone call, suddenly felt powerless.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Valeria looked toward the window overlooking the Aranda estate.

“Because every time I tried… someone made sure you never heard the truth.”

His face changed.

“What are you saying?”

She reached beneath the mattress and pulled out a small envelope.

Inside was a collection of photographs.

Photographs of her being followed.

Photographs of messages sent from unknown numbers.

And one image that made Alejandro’s blood run cold.

His own mother, Doña Esther, standing beside Marcela in the garden.

Both women were smiling.

Valeria pointed at the picture.

“That was taken the night I disappeared for six hours.”

Alejandro stared.

“What happened that night?”

Valeria’s voice trembled.

“They told me if I ever exposed them… my baby would never be safe.”

For the first time in years, Alejandro felt something stronger than anger.

Fear.

Because the enemy was not outside his family.

It was inside his own home.
