Chapter 14 - THE TRAP

The lights went out.

My mother grabbed my hand.

We ran.

Victor's men moved through the theater.

But my father had prepared for this.

A hidden door opened beneath the stage.

We escaped through a maintenance tunnel.

My mother knew every turn.

"How?"

"I helped design this place."

She smiled faintly.

"Your father never knew."

We reached the street.

A black vehicle waited.

My father stood beside it.

He looked at my mother.

For a moment, he simply stared.

Then they embraced.

I watched silently.

After thirty years, my parents were finally standing together.

But Victor wasn't finished.

A phone rang.

My father answered.

The caller was Nathan.

I froze.

Nathan was still in custody.

"How is he calling?"

My father listened.

Then his face hardened.

He handed me the phone.

Nathan's voice came through.

"You should have killed me when you had the chance."

"What do you want?"

"Victor wants a trade."

"Me for you?"

"No."

Nathan laughed.

"Something much more valuable."

"What?"

"Your father's archive."

I looked at my father.

Nathan continued.

"Give Victor the archive."

"Or?"

"You'll find out."

Then the call ended.

My father looked at me.

"We have a problem."

My mother shook her head.

"No."

She looked toward the city.

May you like

"We have an opportunity."
