Chapter 8 - THE RECORDING

Two weeks later, my attorney called.
"Margaret, you need to hear this."
He sent me a recording.
Vanessa's voice.
Clear.
Cold.
She was speaking to a broker.
Once the recording played, there was no misunderstanding.
"We only need Margaret out of the picture."
The broker asked, "What happens if she refuses?"
Vanessa laughed.
"She won't."
"Why?"
"Because Daniel is her weakness."
I closed my eyes.
The recording continued.
"If necessary, we'll make everyone think she's losing her judgment."
My hand tightened around the phone.
The betrayal was larger than I had imagined.
This had been planned.
She intended to portray me as incompetent.
Then obtain control of the property.
Then force a sale.
My own daughter-in-law had been constructing a story in which I was the villain.
I opened my computer.
Within thirty minutes, every attorney involved in my estate had the file.
Within an hour, a judge had signed an emergency order preventing any transfer or encumbrance.
By sunset, Vanessa's plan was dead.
May you like
But I wasn't finished.
