Chapter 13 - THE LETTER

Three weeks later, I received a letter.

From Vanessa.

I almost threw it away.

Instead, I opened it.

"Margaret,

I spent months blaming you.

Then I realized something terrible.

You never destroyed my life.

You simply stopped allowing me to destroy yours.

I don't expect forgiveness.

I don't expect you to welcome me back.

But I am sorry.

Not because I lost the house.

Because I finally understand what I did to you.

You were never an old woman standing in my way.

You were the only person standing between me and my own worst instincts.

I wish I had listened.

Vanessa"

I folded the letter.

Then placed it in the drawer.

Some wounds close.

Some scars remain.

I didn't need to answer.

May you like

Silence could be an answer too.
