Chapter 11 - THE BOARDROOM WITHOUT ME
Graham Vale called an emergency meeting of Bennett Neural Systems.
He believed the company was vulnerable.
My wife had been arrested.
My reputation was damaged.
Photographs showed me unconscious.
News reports described child abuse inside my estate.
Graham offered rescue financing through Harbor Crest.
In exchange, he wanted temporary voting control.
I attended remotely from Rachel’s house.
Leo sat upstairs with Dr. Lewis.
Graham appeared on the screen wearing a dark suit.
“Mark is emotionally compromised.”
“He has admitted serious failures at home.”
“The company requires stable leadership.”
He displayed the forged incapacity report.
Then the photographs.
Me asleep.
Me holding bourbon.
Me stumbling near the pool.
Several directors looked uncomfortable.
Rachel entered the meeting.
She identified herself as independent trust protector.
Graham’s confidence slipped.
She displayed Claire’s trust safeguards.
No Vale company held valid authority.
Every attempted transfer was void.
Then the forensic accountant showed the missing trust funds.
Six million dollars.
Payments to Graham’s businesses.
Payments to Hawthorne Ridge.
Payments to Dr. Price.
Graham interrupted.
“These were legitimate services.”
“Describe the services,” Rachel said.
He could not.
I played Leo’s camera recording.
Graham’s voice filled the boardroom.
Once the behavioral file is complete, the court will transfer the shares.
The directors stopped looking at me as a distracted father.
They looked at Graham as a man who monetized a child’s removal.
Federal agents entered his office before the meeting ended.
The camera remained active.
Graham tried to close the screen.
An agent stopped him.
He was arrested for fraud, conspiracy, child endangerment, and involvement in Claire’s unlawful medication.
The board asked whether I would resume full authority.
“No.”
They looked surprised.
“I missed abuse inside my home.”
“I signed reports I did not verify.”
“I allowed personal relationships to bypass corporate security.”
“The company needs independent leadership while the investigation continues.”
I proposed an interim chief executive.
Employee representation.
Verified communications.
Strict separation between family members and executive systems.
The motion passed.
Bennett Neural Systems survived without me.
That fact hurt my pride.
It also taught me something necessary.
The company did not need a savior.
