Chapter 11 - The Bride's Revenge

The prosecution called their first major witness.

It wasn't me.

It was Chloe, Preston's former bride.

She walked to the stand wearing a conservative black dress.

She looked directly at the jury.

"He planned it."

A murmur ran through the courtroom.

The defense attorney objected, but the judge overruled.

Chloe took a deep breath.

"Before the reception, I was in the bridal suite."

"I heard Preston on the phone with his best man."

"He said he was annoyed that everyone kept telling him how cute his niece looked."

"He said, 'I need to remind everyone who the star of the show is today.'"

"I didn't know what he meant at the time."

"I thought he was joking."

"But then he framed her."

"He planted that phone to make himself look like a strong, commanding man."

Preston put his head in his hands.

My parents stared at Chloe in sheer horror.

Their precious son hadn't just snapped.

He was deeply, fundamentally cruel.

Chloe stepped down from the stand, not even looking at Preston as she passed.
