Chapter 9 - The Photograph Vivienne Sent

The original birth records confirmed Charlotte was Eleanor Valeās biological daughter.
The succession challenge collapsed before lunch.
But Charlotte was more interested in another discovery.
The lobby security system had recovered the full recording of the morning Vivienne dragged her across the floor.
The footage began fourteen minutes before the public confrontation.
Vivienne stood beside Adrian near the executive elevator.
Adrian pointed toward Charlotte.
He knew exactly who she was.
The audio was weak.
Technicians enhanced it.
Charlotte listened.
Adrian said.
āThatās her.ā
Vivienne replied.
āYouāre sure?ā
āI saw her outside the Chicago property last month.ā
Vivienne looked toward Charlotte.
āWhat do you want me to do?ā
Adrian answered.
āMake her lose control.ā
Charlotte felt cold.
The recording continued.
Vivienne smiled.
āIn public?ā
āEspecially in public.ā
āIf she strikes you, screams, threatens someone, anything, we have witnesses.ā
Vivienne laughed.
āAnd then?ā
āThen Simon uses it with the medical records.ā
Charlotte stopped the video.
Daniel looked furious.
āThey staged the lobby incident.ā
Charlotte nodded.
Vivienne had not merely mistaken her for a poor intruder.
She had known who Charlotte was.
The expensive white gown.
The public humiliation.
The insults.
Dragging Charlotte across the marble.
It had all been designed to provoke a reaction.
They wanted twelve witnesses to say Charlotte Vale was violent and unstable.
Instead, Charlotte had stayed calm.
Daniel asked.
āWhat happened before the camera footage?ā
Charlotte told him.
She had entered an executive storage room after following a series of suspicious invoices.
A security supervisor caught her.
She gave a false name.
He ordered her out.
Then Vivienne appeared.
Vivienne slapped her.
Charlotte tried to leave.
Vivienne grabbed her.
The dragging began.
The bruise on Charlotteās face had not come from some unknown attack.
Vivienne had caused it.
Charlotte had not exposed that detail initially because she wanted Vivienne to keep talking.
Now they had everything.
Police interviewed Vivienne that afternoon.
She denied planning the assault.
Then investigators played the enhanced recording.
Her attorney immediately requested a break.
Adrian stopped answering calls.
Simon Graves left Solmere headquarters through a private garage.
Lucien Laurent began negotiating with independent board members.
Charlotte watched the empire that had seemed united against her begin to fracture.
Then Rosa entered her office.
āThereās a woman downstairs.ā
āWho?ā
āShe says she was your motherās private nurse.ā
Charlotte stood.
āEleanor never had a private nurse.ā
Rosa nodded.
āThatās what I thought.ā
āWhat does she want?ā
Rosa swallowed.
May you like
āShe says your mother did not die from a brain hemorrhage.ā
Charlotte went completely still.
