Chapter 11 - Vivienne Breaks

Vivienne Laurent lasted thirty-seven minutes in her second police interview.
Then she asked whether cooperation could reduce potential charges.
Her fatherās attorney begged her to stop talking.
Vivienne ignored him.
For the first time in her life, self-preservation mattered more than family loyalty.
She admitted Adrian asked her to provoke Charlotte in the lobby.
She admitted she knew Charlotteās identity before grabbing her.
She admitted Laurent Lifestyle Management had overbilled Solmere.
Then she drew a line.
āI never touched Eleanor.ā
Investigators asked who did.
Vivienne shook her head.
āI donāt know.ā
āBut Adrian was terrified of her.ā
Charlotte watched the recorded interview from Danielās office.
Vivienne explained that Eleanor planned to fire Adrian and remove Lucien from the board.
She had also discovered Simonās shell companies.
Two days before Eleanor died, Adrian held a private meeting.
Lucien attended.
Simon attended.
Malcolm Price attended.
Vivienne was told to leave.
She listened outside.
She heard Adrian say.
āIf she signs the disclosure, we are all finished.ā
Then Simon replied.
āShe wonāt sign anything if Charlotte never gets control.ā
Charlotte stopped the video.
Daniel looked at her.
āThey were planning the succession fraud before Eleanor died.ā
Charlotte nodded.
āBut that still doesnāt prove they planned her death.ā
The next part changed that.
Vivienne described seeing Malcolm Price enter Adrianās office carrying a black medical case.
When he left, the case was empty.
Later that evening, Vivienne saw Adrian take a small pharmacy bag upstairs.
Charlotte felt sick.
The bag Melissa photographed.
Investigators searched Dr. Priceās old financial accounts.
One payment appeared two days after Eleanor died.
Two hundred fifty thousand dollars.
Sender.
White Harbor Capital.
One of the Account 1816 shell companies.
Price had died seven months later in a boating accident.
The payment had never been investigated.
Then Daniel found something else.
Priceās autopsy toxicology remained archived.
Alcohol level.
Sedatives.
An unusual cardiac medication.
Charlotte frowned.
āWhat does his death have to do with my mother?ā
Daniel looked grim.
āMaybe nothing.ā
āOr maybe the doctor who knew what happened became a problem too.ā
Charlotte stood.
For the first time, the conspiracy no longer looked like financial theft protected by lies.
It looked like a pattern.
Eleanor.
Price.
Charlotteās erased identity.
Melissaās silence.
Eliasās forced resignation.
Everyone who knew too much was either threatened, removed, or discredited.
Charlotte looked toward the Solmere skyline outside the window.
āThey didnāt expect me to come back.ā
Daniel shook his head.
āNo.ā
May you like
Charlotteās expression hardened.
āThat was their biggest mistake.ā
