Chapter 8 - The Man in the Shadows

Nathan found the security chief at an abandoned warehouse.

The man tried to run.

Nathan caught him.

“Who ordered the attack?”

The man refused.

Nathan grabbed his collar.

“My daughter almost died.”

The man looked away.

“I was told Grace had to disappear.”

“By whom?”

“Richard.”

“My father?”

“Yes.”

Nathan released him.

“And the recent attack?”

The man hesitated.

“Victoria.”

Nathan's stomach turned.

“She ordered it?”

“She said Grace knew too much.”

“About what?”

The man looked terrified.

“About the company.”

Nathan stared at him.

“What company secret?”

The man laughed bitterly.

“Your inheritance wasn't clean.”

Nathan froze.

“What does that mean?”

“Your father built the empire through illegal acquisitions.”

Nathan shook his head.

“No.”

“Companies were forced into bankruptcy.”

“Stop.”

“Competitors were threatened.”

“Stop.”

“And people who refused were destroyed.”

Nathan stepped backward.

The empire he had spent his life defending was not a monument to his father's brilliance.

It was a monument to fear.

The security chief whispered,

“Your father left you everything because he believed you would protect it.”

Nathan looked at him.

“What if I don't?”

The man smiled sadly.

“Then they will come for your daughter.”

Nathan's expression changed.

May you like

“Let them come.”
