Chapter 12 - The Hidden Room

Nathan returned to his father's mansion one final time.
Behind the library was a locked room he had never seen opened.
The security chief gave him the code.
Inside were dozens of files.
Nathan opened the first.
Grace.
The second.
Lily.
The third.
Nathan himself.
His entire life had been monitored.
There were photographs of his meetings.
His relationships.
His business decisions.
Then Nathan found a file marked:
PROJECT VICTORIA.
Inside was the marriage plan.
The engagement had been arranged six years earlier.
Before Nathan had even met Victoria.
He turned another page.
There was a medical report.
Victoria could not have children.
Nathan stared at it.
Then he understood.
Lily wasn't simply a threat to Victoria's marriage.
She was the heir Victoria could never provide.
Nathan found one final photograph.
Richard standing beside Victoria's father.
And between them was a young Victoria.
On the back someone had written:
She knows everything.
Nathan took the file.
Then he heard footsteps.
Someone was inside the mansion.
He turned.
Victoria stood in the doorway.
“You shouldn't have come back.”
Nathan stepped forward.
“You knew.”
Victoria's eyes filled with tears.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I was told you would never love me unless Grace disappeared.”
Nathan stared at her.
“And you believed them?”
Victoria laughed bitterly.
“I was twenty-four.”
“You're not twenty-four anymore.”
Her expression hardened.
“No.”
She looked at him.
May you like
“Now I'm angry.”
