Chapter 10 — The Night The Empire Fell

The moment Damian heard Detective Cole's warning, everything changed.

For years, Damian Whitmore had believed he was always one step ahead.

He had built a company from nothing.

He had defeated competitors.

He had survived scandals that would have destroyed ordinary men.

But standing in the center of his penthouse, facing Victor Hale, he finally understood something terrifying.

The greatest threat was never outside his walls.

It had been invited inside.

"Leave."

Damian's voice was calm.

Too calm.

Victor smiled.

"You still think you are in control."

"I said leave."

Victor slowly walked toward the glass wall overlooking the city.

"The interesting thing about power, Damian..."

He looked down at the endless lights below.

"...is that people only respect it until they discover how fragile it is."

Damian clenched his fists.

"You tried to kill my wife."

Victor didn't deny it.

That was the worst part.

"No."

He turned around.

"I tried to remove an obstacle."

The words hit harder than any confession.

"An obstacle?"

"Your wife was smart. Too smart."

Victor smiled.

"She started asking questions."

Across the city, alarms began ringing.

Inside Whitmore Corporation headquarters, emergency notifications appeared on every computer screen.

SYSTEM BREACH DETECTED.

Executives rushed through the building.

Employees panicked.

Financial accounts froze.

Contracts disappeared.

And within minutes...

The world's largest business networks began reporting the same thing.

Whitmore Corporation was collapsing.

At the hospital, Eleanor watched the breaking news.

Her face went pale.

"He started."

Clara looked at the television.

The reporters were already outside Whitmore Tower.

"What's happening?"

Eleanor answered quietly.

"Victor isn't trying to destroy Damian."

A pause.

"He's trying to make everyone believe Damian destroyed himself."

Detective Cole entered the room.

"We have a problem."

Clara turned.

"What?"

"Victor transferred evidence."

"Evidence of what?"

The detective looked at Eleanor.

"Everything."

Eleanor's expression changed.

"He wants the world to believe Damian was responsible for the crimes from fifteen years ago."

Clara understood immediately.

"He is replacing the truth with another lie."

Cole nodded.

"Exactly."

Back at the penthouse, Damian stood face-to-face with the man who had manipulated his entire life.

"You were behind everything."

Victor smiled.

"Not everything."

Damian frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Victor walked closer.

"Thomas Bennett's disappearance."

A pause.

"Eleanor's investigation."

Another pause.

"Even Vanessa's revenge."

Damian froze.

"You used her."

"Of course."

Victor's voice remained emotionless.

"Angry people are easy to control."

Damian looked disgusted.

"She was your daughter."

Victor laughed quietly.

"My daughter was a tool."

Those words changed something.

Not in Damian.

In Vanessa.

Because she was standing outside the penthouse door.

Listening.

She had heard everything.

Every cruel word.

Every confession.

Her father had never wanted justice.

He wanted destruction.

And she had spent fifteen years helping him.

Vanessa entered.

Both men turned.

Victor looked surprised.

"Vanessa."

For the first time, she didn't look like the elegant woman from charity events.

She looked like someone who had finally seen the truth.

"You used me."

Victor remained silent.

"I hated Damian because of you."

Still silence.

"I destroyed Eleanor because of you."

Her voice broke.

"And you never cared."

Victor looked at her coldly.

"Care is a weakness."

Vanessa shook her head.

"No."

A tear appeared.

"Using your own daughter is weakness."

Victor's expression hardened.

"Do you really think you can stop me?"

Vanessa looked at Damian.

Then at the security system.

She held a small device in her hand.

Damian noticed.

"What is that?"

"The backup server access key."

Victor's face changed.

"Where did you get that?"

Vanessa smiled sadly.

"You taught me how to steal secrets."

A pause.

"I learned."

She pressed the button.

Suddenly, every screen in the penthouse turned on.

Files appeared.

Documents.

Recordings.

Financial records.

Everything Victor had hidden for fifteen years.

Victor stepped forward.

"No."

Vanessa looked at him.

"This ends tonight."

But then...

The lights went out.

The penthouse became completely dark.

A sound came from the hallway.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Controlled.

Someone else was there.

Damian turned.

"Who is that?"

Nobody answered.

Then a voice came from the darkness.

A voice nobody expected.

A voice that had been silent for fifteen years.

"I think you all forgot one person."

The lights returned.

Standing at the entrance was an older man.

Tired.

Scarred.

But alive.

Clara saw his face on the security monitor.

Her heart stopped.

Because she knew him.

Even though she had not seen him since childhood.

The man whispered:

"Clara..."

May you like

Her breath disappeared.

"My daughter."
