Chapter 15 - The Doctor Talks

Cole begged for protection.
Monroe promised nothing.
But once the restraints were removed, he talked.
Fast.
Serena had hired him years earlier.
At first, he falsified medical reports.
Then he helped manipulate Project Aster records.
Later, he provided sedatives used on Ethan.
Victor struggled to remain seated.
âYou drugged my son.â
Cole looked down.
âYes.â
âWhy?â
âSerena needed him to appear cognitively impaired.â
Victorâs fists clenched.
Monroe intervened.
âAmelia.â
Cole went pale.
âI wasnât involved in the brake line.â
âWho was?â
âJulian ordered it.â
âWe know.â
Cole shook his head.
âNo.â
âYou donât.â
âJulian hired someone to damage the vehicle.â
âBut Amelia survived the crash.â
Victor stopped breathing.
Cole continued.
âShe was conscious when paramedics reached her.â
âShe should have lived.â
Lily whispered.
âWhat happened?â
Cole looked at Victor.
âSerena met the ambulance at St. Vincentâs.â
âThis clinic?â
âYes.â
âJulian arranged for Amelia to be diverted here under the excuse that the nearest trauma center was full.â
Victorâs face became gray.
Cole continued.
âShe had internal bleeding.â
âTreatable.â
âBut Serena ordered medication that lowered her blood pressure further.â
Victor stood.
Monroe moved between them.
âYou killed her.â
Cole shook his head desperately.
âI didnât administer it.â
âWho did?â
Cole swallowed.
âYour mother.â
Victor froze.
âMy mother?â
Eleanor Hale.
Victorâs mother had died three years earlier.
A respected philanthropist.
The woman who had raised him.
The woman who had held him at Ameliaâs funeral.
Cole nodded.
âShe was here.â
Victor looked physically ill.
âWhy?â
âBecause she knew about Project Aster.â
âShe believed exposing it would destroy the Hale family.â
Lily felt cold.
Eleanor had chosen the family name over Ameliaâs life.
Cole continued.
âSerena told her Amelia was going public.â
âEleanor panicked.â
âShe approved the medication.â
Victor sat down again.
Everything he believed about his family was collapsing.
Then Cole added.
âSerena recorded the entire conversation.â
Monroe leaned forward.
âWhere is it?â
Cole looked at the countdown phone.
âThat timer isnât only an upload.â
âWhat else?â
âAt zero, the archive wipes itself from Serenaâs private server.â
âEverything.â
May you like
âIncluding the recording of Eleanor ordering Ameliaâs death.â
Forty-seven hours remained.
