Chapter 7 - THE HOUSE WITH TWO CRIBS

Vivian claimed the house belonged to her cousin.

Her name appeared on the lease.

Her credit card purchased the cribs.

Her phone contained photographs of the nursery.

One message to Graham showed two bassinets beneath a painted moon.

OUR BABIES WILL COME HOME HERE.

Graham responded with a heart.

The twins had never been theirs.

But they had built a home around the belief that paperwork could make it so.

The forged birth certificates replaced my name with Vivian’s.

Graham remained listed as father.

A hospital discharge plan named Dr. Lane as consulting physician.

Another document authorized an ambulance transfer after an emergency delivery.

The receiving facility did not exist.

They intended to remove the babies from the hospital under false medical orders.

If I remained sedated or declared incompetent, no one would immediately challenge the paperwork.

Vivian had practiced erasing people before.

She erased Elias from death records.

She planned to erase me from birth records.

My fear became something colder.

Purpose.

I told Claire to amend the divorce complaint.

I wanted every financial record, custody plan, and communication preserved.

I wanted Graham’s firm investigated.

I wanted the women and men harmed in his other cases notified.

Elias studied me.

“You need to rest.”

“I have rested inside his version of my life for six years.”

“I am finished.”

Dr. Patel agreed that stress could affect the pregnancy.

She also understood that information could reduce fear.

She arranged for hospital security to place me under an alias.

Only four staff members knew my room.

The twins’ medical charts were locked from outside access.

Graham’s parental information was flagged.

No transfer could occur without two independent physicians and a court order.

That evening, a nurse named Olivia brought my medication.

She scanned the bracelet.

The computer rejected her login.

Olivia frowned.

“This system has been acting strangely all day.”

Elias looked at the pills.

“What are those?”

“A sleep aid ordered by Dr. Lane.”

The room went silent.

Dr. Lane had no privileges at the hospital.

No one had requested a sleep aid.

Olivia stepped backward.

“I received the order through the central system.”

Security took the medication.

May you like

The pills contained a powerful sedative.

Someone inside the hospital network was still helping Graham.
