Chapter 15 - THE CUSTODY HEARING
Graham’s attorneys argued that criminal charges did not automatically remove parental rights.
They requested photographs, medical information, and supervised access to the twins.
Claire opposed everything.
The court appointed an independent child advocate.
The hearing occurred while Caroline and Samuel remained in neonatal care.
Graham appeared by video from detention.
He wore a suit provided by his attorney.
His hair was neatly styled.
He looked like the man who once convinced judges that frightened spouses were unstable.
“I love my children,” he said.
“I made mistakes in my marriage.”
“I never intended harm to the babies.”
The prosecutor presented the forged birth certificates.
The ambulance transfer plan.
The infant passports.
The nursery photographs.
The sedatives.
Graham said Vivian created them because she was obsessed.
Then Vivian testified.
She described every meeting.
Every payment.
Every promise.
She admitted her own responsibility.
She also produced voice messages from Graham.
Once the babies are registered under your name, Lena becomes unnecessary.
The judge stopped the recording.
Graham looked down.
The child advocate requested immediate termination proceedings.
The judge suspended all parental access and prohibited Graham from receiving the twins’ location.
The final decision would follow the criminal trial.
Graham asked to speak directly to me.
I refused.
He addressed the camera instead.
“Lena, everything I did was to protect our future.”
I stood.
“Our future was never the babies.”
“It was the trust.”
“You saw my family as money surrounded by bodies.”
“You erased the bodies when they became inconvenient.”
The judge warned me not to continue.
I sat down.
The order was signed.
Graham had no authority over my medical care.
No authority over the twins.
No authority over the trust.
The marriage that gave him access had become evidence of fraud.
Outside the courtroom, reporters asked whether Elias’s return felt miraculous.
