Victoria began writing from prison.
Her early letters blamed Charles and Sebastian.
She described herself as a frightened widow trapped in a powerful household.
Noah returned them unread.
Three years later, another letter arrived.
It was shorter.

I put the drug in your milk.
I moved your wheelchair.
I tore out the call button.
I locked the chain.
Charles ordered the plan.
Sebastian prepared the fire.
Neither man forced my hands.
I wanted the money and the life they promised after you were gone.
You did not cause what I did.
You owe me nothing.
Noah read the letter twice.
He handed it to Evelyn.
“Is this an apology?”
“It is accountability.”
“Are they different?”
“An apology asks someone to recognize regret.”
“Accountability names what happened without controlling the response.”
Noah kept the letter.
He did not answer.
At sixteen, he wrote one sentence.
I remember asking you not to close the door.
Victoria replied.
I remember closing it.
She did not ask for forgiveness.
That mattered.
It did not restore trust.
Noah chose no further contact.
Distance was not revenge.
It was safety.
Sebastian wrote too.
His letters focused on Charles’s manipulation.
