Chapter 4 — The File Called “BLACK ROSE”

Vivienne did not open the flash drive that night.

Not in the ballroom.

Not surrounded by people who had watched her humiliation like it was entertainment.

She walked out of the wedding hall with her head held high, even though every step felt heavier than the last.

The venue staff tried to help her.

The guests whispered apologies.

Some people avoided her eyes because they were ashamed.

Others looked at her with curiosity, still hungry for more drama.

But Vivienne heard none of it.

Her mind was trapped in one sentence.

“They lied to you.”

Her father.

Her husband.

Her entire marriage.

Everything she believed in suddenly felt fragile.

Outside the venue, the cold night air touched her face.

Her driver opened the car door.

“Mrs. Carter, are you okay?”

Vivienne looked at him.

For years, everyone had asked her that question expecting a simple answer.

A polite smile.

A reassuring lie.

Tonight, she finally answered honestly.

“No.”

The driver said nothing.

He simply nodded and allowed her to sit quietly.

When she arrived home, the mansion felt unfamiliar.

The same marble floors.

The same paintings.

The same expensive furniture.

But now she saw everything differently.

Every room carried a memory.

Every corner reminded her of Ethan.

The man who held her hand when she was sick.

The man who promised:

“I will always protect you.”

Now she knew he had been standing beside the people trying to destroy her.

Vivienne entered her office.

She locked the door.

Then she placed the flash drive on the desk.

For several minutes, she only stared at it.

Part of her wanted to throw it away.

Because some truths were easier to ignore.

But another part of her knew.

If she walked away now…

They would win.

She connected the drive to her computer.

A single folder appeared.

BLACK ROSE

Her fingers trembled slightly.

She clicked.

Inside were dozens of files.

Financial records.

Emails.

Photographs.

Audio recordings.

And one document dated eight years earlier.

The day her father died.

Vivienne opened it.

The first page showed a transaction.

Millions of dollars transferred from a hidden account.

Recipient:

Carter Holdings Private Investment Group

Her husband’s family company.

Her breathing stopped.

“No…”

She continued reading.

The money transfer happened three days before her father’s accident.

Then another file opened.

A recorded conversation.

The voices were familiar.

Eleanor.

Chloe’s father.

And Ethan.

Vivienne pressed play.

Eleanor’s voice filled the room.

“Once Richard is gone, his daughter will have no idea what happened.”

A man answered.

“She will inherit everything.”

Eleanor laughed.

“Not if we control who she trusts.”

Then Ethan’s younger voice appeared.

“I will handle Vivienne.”

The recording stopped.

Vivienne sat completely still.

Eight years.

Eight years of believing Ethan loved her.

Eight years of defending him.

Eight years of building a life with a man who had entered her world with a hidden purpose.

A tear fell onto the desk.

Not because she missed him.

May you like

Because she finally understood.

She had married a stranger.
