Chapter 2 — The Husband Behind the Curtain

The footage showed Ethan entering the bridal suite three hours before the ceremony.
He looked around carefully.
Then he opened the drawer where the ring box was hidden.
The ballroom became completely silent.
Vivienne could barely breathe.
“No…”
The word escaped her lips.
Ethan looked at the screen.
His face lost color.
“Turn that off.”
The security manager ignored him.
The video continued.
Ethan removed something from inside the ring box.
A small envelope.
Then Chloe entered.
They spoke quietly.
The audio was unclear at first.
The manager increased the volume.
Ethan’s voice filled the room.
“After the accusation, everyone will focus on Vivienne.”
Chloe smiled.
“And then?”
Ethan answered:
“Then my mother pressures her.”
A pause.
“She will be emotional. She will sign anything.”
Vivienne felt her entire body go cold.
Anything.
The word echoed.
The manager continued.
“The next recording was taken from the private hallway camera.”
The screen changed.
It showed Ethan meeting with a lawyer.
Documents were visible.
The lawyer pointed at several pages.
Ethan said:
“Once she signs, her company shares transfer to me.”
A wave of shock moved through the crowd.
Vivienne covered her mouth.
Her company.
Her father’s company.
The business she built for years.
That was what they wanted.
The missing ring was never about a ring.
It was about destroying her confidence.
Humiliating her.
Making her feel alone.
Then forcing her to surrender everything.
Ethan finally spoke.
“This is edited.”
Nobody believed him.
Vivienne slowly turned toward him.
“Why?”
Her voice was almost a whisper.
“Why would you do this to me?”
Ethan looked at her.
For a moment, she saw something she had never seen before.
Not guilt.
Fear.
“You don’t understand.”
“No.”
Vivienne shook her head.
“I understand perfectly.”
Chloe suddenly stepped forward.
“This is getting out of control.”
Everyone looked at her.
She tried to remain calm.
“Maybe Ethan made mistakes, but Vivienne was always difficult. She never respected this family.”
Vivienne stared at her.
Then she laughed quietly.
A painful laugh.
“You planned all of this.”
Chloe said nothing.
That silence was the answer.
The security manager walked toward Ethan.
“Sir, you need to come with us.”
Ethan stepped back.
Then suddenly…
He grabbed the tablet from the manager’s hand.
People screamed.
He ran toward the side exit.
Security chased him.
Vivienne stood frozen.
Until she saw him stop beside the elevator.
The doors opened.
Behind him was darkness.
An unfinished service shaft.
“Ethan!”
She shouted.
For the first time that night, fear appeared in her voice.
He looked back.
Not at security.
Not at his family.
At her.
Then he reached inside his jacket.
Vivienne thought it was the ring.
But it wasn’t.
He pulled out a small black flash drive.
“This…”
He held it tightly.
“This is the truth.”
Everyone stopped.
Ethan looked directly at his wife.
“The reason they needed control over you…”
May you like
His voice lowered.
“Is because they were afraid you would discover what happened before you married me.”
