Chapter 14 — The Man Who Knew Everything

The warehouse was abandoned.

Broken windows.

Rusting doors.

A place where secrets could disappear.

Vivienne arrived with Natalie, Daniel, and Marcus.

Ethan was already there.

Standing alone.

For the first time, he looked like the man she had married.

Not the powerful Carter heir.

Not the liar.

Just Ethan.

Tired.

Regretful.

“You came.”

Vivienne kept her distance.

“Who did you find?”

Ethan looked toward the back room.

“Someone who knows everything.”

The door opened.

An elderly man stepped out.

Vivienne froze.

Because she recognized him.

“Mr. Anderson?”

He had been her father’s closest business partner.

He was supposed to have died years ago.

But he was alive.

“I’m sorry, Vivienne.”

His voice was weak.

“I should have protected you.”

Everyone stared.

Daniel stepped forward.

“You knew about the plan?”

Anderson nodded.

“I knew parts of it.”

He looked at Vivienne.

“Your father discovered they were planning to take control of your inheritance through marriage.”

Her stomach tightened.

“Through Ethan.”

Anderson nodded.

“Ethan was chosen.”

Vivienne looked at him.

Ethan looked away.

Anderson continued:

“But something changed.”

“What?”

“Ethan fell in love with you.”

Nobody spoke.

Vivienne felt anger rise.

“Love does not erase what he did.”

“I know.”

Ethan whispered.

“I know.”

Anderson looked at him.

“You had one chance to tell her.”

Ethan closed his eyes.

“I was afraid.”

Vivienne laughed bitterly.

“Afraid?”

She stepped closer.

“You watched them tear my dress.”

Silence.

“You watched your family accuse me.”

Her voice cracked.

“You stood there while I begged you to believe me.”

Ethan looked devastated.

“I know.”

“No.”

Vivienne shook her head.

“You don’t.”

She touched her stomach.

“You don't know what it feels like to realize the person you trusted most was the person holding the knife.”

Ethan had no answer.

Because there was none.

Then Anderson placed a final file on the table.

“This is what they were really after.”

Vivienne opened it.

A trust agreement.

Her father’s final protection.

The condition was simple.

When Vivienne’s child was born…

The entire Carter fortune would transfer into a protected foundation controlled only by her and her child.

No husband.

No relatives.

No outside investors.

Nobody could touch it.

Vivienne understood.

That was why they needed her signature.

If she signed their documents, they could bypass her father’s protection.

The ring was never the weapon.

The weapon was humiliation.

May you like

Fear.

Isolation.
