Chapter 11 - UNCLE VICTOR’S OFFER

Victor Vale had spent most of his adult life in Europe.

He appeared at weddings.

Funerals.

Board votes.

Never long enough to become accountable for anything.

Now he stood at the conference table wearing a navy suit and a pleasant smile.

Gabriel did not return it.

“Why are you here?”

Victor looked at Elena.

“To fix this mess.”

Cassandra laughed bitterly.

“You’re late.”

“No.”

Victor sat.

“I’m exactly on time.”

Elijah closed the bank file.

“You have counsel?”

“I don’t need counsel to speak with family.”

Elijah’s expression suggested otherwise.

Victor turned toward Elena.

“You are now entitled to a significant trust distribution.”

“Apparently.”

“You don’t want it.”

Elena studied him.

“How do you know what I want?”

“Because you’re not one of us.”

Gabriel’s jaw tightened.

Elena stayed calm.

Victor continued.

“That is a compliment.”

“You still believe relationships matter more than assets.”

“Take fifteen million.”

“Walk away from the trust dispute.”

“Return Cassandra’s forfeited interest.”

Elena almost smiled.

“You’re offering me my own money?”

Victor’s expression flickered.

“You understand what I mean.”

“Yes.”

“You want me to fix Cassandra’s mistake.”

Victor leaned forward.

“We can still protect the family.”

Elena looked around the table.

“From what?”

He did not answer.

That was the first real clue.

Gabriel noticed too.

“What are you afraid investigators will find?”

Victor stood.

“Be careful.”

Gabriel followed.

“No.”

“You be careful.”

Victor’s smile disappeared.

“Theodore was not a saint.”

“Nobody said he was.”

“He hid things.”

“Then tell us.”

Victor glanced at Cassandra.

For one second, their eyes met.

An agreement passed between them.

Elijah saw it.

So did Elena.

Victor walked toward the door.

Before leaving, he said.

“If the trust opens completely, none of you will like what comes out.”

That night, Elijah ordered a deeper audit.

The audit found a private subsidiary.

Vale Meridian Holdings.

It owned land, hotels, and medical investments worth nearly four hundred million dollars.

Theodore had never listed it in the public family disclosures.

Elena studied the ownership document.

Forty percent Theodore.

Twenty percent Gabriel.

Twenty percent Cassandra.

Twenty percent Victor.

But another page changed everything.

Theodore had amended the ownership months earlier.

Cassandra’s twenty percent moved into conditional trust.

Victor’s twenty percent did too.

And if either participated in coercion against Elena, both interests could be redirected.

Gabriel looked at Elijah.

“Both?”

Elijah nodded.

“The clauses are linked.”

Elena stared at the document.

May you like

Cassandra’s attack might not cost thirty-eight million.

It might cost closer to one hundred million.
