Chapter 7 - THE MARRIAGE PLAN

Alicia had worked for Whitmore Medical Holdings for eleven years.

She knew where money moved.

She knew which executives signed.

She knew which invoices were real.

And she knew when Preston’s father, Charles Whitmore, began studying the Saint Claire trust.

“It started almost five years ago.”

Emily listened from the library sofa.

Alicia spread documents across the table.

“Charles discovered that controlling ownership would eventually pass to you.”

“So Preston met me deliberately?”

Alicia nodded.

Emily felt the room tilt.

“The charity event?”

“Arranged.”

“The seat beside me?”

“Arranged.”

“The flowers?”

Alicia’s eyes filled with shame.

“His assistant researched you.”

Emily looked away.

The memories now felt poisoned.

The first date.

The proposal at Lake Erie.

The wedding vows.

Alicia pushed forward another folder.

“Vanessa was already with him.”

Emily stared at the photograph again.

“Why would she agree to this?”

“Money.”

Alicia answered immediately.

“Preston promised her they would marry after you transferred control.”

Raymond’s expression turned hard.

“And the baby?”

Alicia hesitated.

Emily noticed.

“What about my son?”

“They needed an heir.”

Emily went completely still.

Alicia spoke carefully.

“Once your son was born, Preston expected to petition for temporary control of your trust by claiming you suffered severe postpartum instability.”

Emily’s hand moved protectively over her stomach.

Raymond swore under his breath.

Alicia continued.

“Then you were supposed to be sent away for treatment.”

Emily stared at her.

“Sent where?”

“A private psychiatric facility owned by Whitmore Holdings.”

The cruelty was almost too calculated to understand.

They would take her company.

Her child.

Her credibility.

Then lock her somewhere they controlled.

Raymond leaned forward.

“Why are you telling us now?”

Alicia began crying again.

“Because I helped.”

Emily’s eyes narrowed.

“I processed some of the transfers.”

“I told myself they were legitimate.”

“Then I saw the forged signatures.”

Alicia wiped her face.

“I resigned.”

“Charles threatened my family.”

“And yesterday I saw the hospital footage online.”

Emily frowned.

“Online?”

Alicia turned her phone around.

Someone had leaked the hallway video.

Millions of people had already viewed it.

The clip showed Vanessa kicking Emily.

Preston watching.

Emily making the call.

Then Raymond arriving.

The comments were exploding.

But one detail frightened Raymond.

The video had been uploaded before hospital security released anything.

Only someone with internal access could have copied it.

Raymond looked toward his security chief.

“Find out who accessed that footage.”

Thirty minutes later, the answer arrived.

The login belonged to Raymond’s executive assistant.

A man who had worked beside him for sixteen years.
