Chapter 19 - The Central Ledger

Adrian reached Nora beneath the shattered office windows.

She was bleeding from the forehead but conscious.

The explosion had destroyed the wall behind her desk.

Inside was a black steel safe.

The blast was not intended to kill her.

It was designed to expose the safe.

Someone wanted the ledger found.

The safe opened with Michael Bennett’s watch.

Inside were handwritten books dating back four decades.

The records named governors, judges, executives, doctors, and intelligence contractors.

They documented hundreds of crimes.

At the bottom of the safe was a recent entry.

OPERATION CHAMPAGNE.

The plan had been approved eighteen months earlier.

Julian was listed as operational lead.

Charles was listed as financial controller.

Pierce was listed as medical support.

Celeste was listed as coerced proxy.

Vivian was listed as disposable witness.

Nora was listed as designated scapegoat.

Adrian was listed as target.

Elena was listed as containment risk.

A final name appeared beneath the others.

Executive Sponsor: A. Vale.

Adrian stared at his own initial.

“I did not authorize this.”

Nora turned the page.

The sponsor’s full name appeared.

Alexandra Vale.

Adrian’s younger sister.

Alexandra had lived in Switzerland for twelve years.

She served as Vale Global’s director of European operations.

She returned to the country during the wedding but claimed her flight was canceled.

Travel records showed she landed three days earlier.

Alexandra entered headquarters that evening.

She wore a cream suit and carried no visible weapon.

“I suppose the wall finally opened,” she said.

Adrian stepped toward her.

“You ordered the poisoning.”

“I ordered Julian to expose Charles.”

“He expanded the operation.”

“You listed Nora as a scapegoat.”

“She was supposed to be arrested temporarily.”

“Her father’s history would attract public sympathy once she was cleared.”

“You planned every reaction.”

Alexandra looked toward the ledger.

“Dominion could not be destroyed from outside.”

“It required a scandal large enough to force every hidden member into action.”

“You created the wedding trap.”

“Yes.”

“You allowed two women to die.”

Her expression changed.

“Kendra and the second victim were not part of my plan.”

“Plans do not remain clean when built with criminals.”

Nora closed the ledger.

“You are under arrest.”

Alexandra smiled.

“You have no legal authority to order that.”

Nora pressed the intercom.

“Security.”

No one answered.

Alexandra’s private force had taken control of the building.

The elevators locked.

The lights dimmed.

Alexandra looked at Adrian.

“I did what Father was too weak to do.”

“I sacrificed the family to save the company.”

Adrian shook his head.

“You sacrificed strangers to inherit a cleaner throne.”

Sirens sounded outside.

Elena’s voice came through the office speakers.

“No, Alexandra.”

May you like

“You sacrificed yourself.”

Every page of the ledger was already being transmitted worldwide.
