Chapter 12 - Helena Cross Returns

Helena walked to the altar.
Julian looked almost as shocked as Adrian.
“Mother?”
She stopped several feet from him.
“You were supposed to expose Charles.”
“You were not supposed to become him.”
Julian’s control finally broke.
“I watched you die.”
“You watched a boat explode.”
“Charles believed I was aboard.”
“Richard helped me disappear.”
Adrian stared at her.
“My father saved you?”
“He saved himself first.”
“Then guilt made him useful.”
Helena revealed that the stolen prototype had not belonged to her.
She and Richard designed it together.
Charles financed the research and demanded exclusive ownership.
When Helena planned to reveal illegal surveillance capabilities, Charles ordered the boat destroyed.
Richard warned her hours before the explosion.
He placed her in hiding.
But he refused to expose Charles publicly because doing so would collapse Vale Global.
Helena raised Julian in secret for several years.
Then Charles discovered her location.
She fled again and left Julian with relatives under the Cross name.
“You abandoned me,” Julian said.
“I believed distance would protect you.”
“It taught me that everyone chooses power over family.”
Helena looked toward the board.
Richard’s final legal amendment did not name Julian.
It named Helena as trustee of the controlling shares.
She had remained hidden until enough evidence existed to remove Charles and Pierce permanently.
“The trust transfer was mine,” she said.
“Julian only activated a process Richard created.”
Adrian stepped closer.
“Why did you allow him to poison me?”
“I did not know about tonight.”
“I contacted Celeste after she discovered Ethan’s location.”
“I told her to preserve evidence.”
“She chose to work with Julian.”
Celeste lowered her eyes.
Julian pointed toward his mother.
“She is lying.”
“She wants the company.”
Helena shook her head.
“I came to dissolve the controlling trust.”
“The shares will be distributed to employees and public investors.”
“There will be no Vale dynasty.”
Adrian said nothing.
For generations, every crime had been committed to protect family control.
Helena intended to end it.
Julian lifted the remote again.
“If I cannot inherit the company, no one will.”
The screens changed.
A countdown appeared.
He had initiated a market release of confidential defense contracts.
If completed, the leak would expose national security systems and destroy the company.
The countdown showed eighteen minutes.
Julian backed toward the altar door.
“Choose carefully, Adrian.”
“Save the empire.”
“Or save the woman waiting beneath the chapel.”
A live camera appeared.
Nora was shown chained inside a flooding underground crypt.
The Nora standing beside Grace looked at the screen in horror.
Then everyone realized the woman beside Grace was not Nora.
She removed a mask.

Dr. Rebecca Pierce smiled.
Samuel Pierce’s daughter had infiltrated the chapel.
