Chapter 1 – The Boy They Called a Thief

The crystal chandeliers inside Blackwood Plaza reflected off polished marble floors as shoppers drifted from one luxury boutique to another. It was the kind of place where expensive suits and designer handbags belonged.

Eight-year-old Noah Carter didn't.

His worn sneakers squeaked softly against the spotless floor as he hurried toward the bakery, clutching a paper bag his mother had asked him to carry.

"Slow down," his mother, Sarah, called with a smile. "Don't run."

Noah laughed.

Then everything changed.

A middle-aged man in a tailored navy suit suddenly grabbed Noah by the collar with surprising force.

"You little thief!" he roared.

The paper bag slipped from Noah's hands, spilling bread across the floor.

"I—I didn't take anything!"

"You expect me to believe that?" the man barked before striking the boy across the face.

The crack echoed through the atrium.

Gasps erupted from nearby shoppers.

Noah collapsed onto the marble, tears filling his eyes as he instinctively shielded his head.

"I didn't steal..."

The wealthy man didn't stop.

He kicked the backpack lying beside Noah.

"What did you hide in there?"

Sarah froze for half a second.

Then instinct took over.

"Don't touch my son!"

She sprinted across the lobby and shoved the man backward with every ounce of strength she had.

Security guards rushed toward the growing crowd.

"Ma'am, calm down!"

"He assaulted my child!" Sarah shouted, kneeling beside Noah.

The man straightened his expensive jacket as though nothing had happened.

"I'm Richard Holloway," he said coldly. "CEO of Holloway Financial."

The crowd immediately fell silent.

Several people recognized him from television.

"He tried to rob my wife," Richard declared confidently.

"My wife lost a diamond bracelet worth seventy thousand dollars."

Whispers spread instantly.

"The kid looks suspicious..."

"Maybe he really stole it."

Sarah looked around in disbelief.

"You actually believe him?"

Richard smiled.

"The security cameras will prove everything."

Sarah gently helped Noah to his feet.

Blood trickled from the corner of the boy's mouth.

Her hands trembled—not from fear.

From anger.

Without another word, she reached into her purse.

She removed a small black USB drive.

Richard's confident smile faded for the first time.

He recognized it immediately.

Impossible.

That drive should have disappeared years ago.

Sarah met his eyes with chilling calm.

"I wasn't going to do this today," she whispered.

"But after what you did to my son..."

May you like

She held up the USB for everyone to see.

"...you've just destroyed your own future."
