CHAPTER 3 — THE TRUTH

My father’s voice stayed calm.

Too calm.

The kind of calm that only comes after devastation.

“For three years, money has been transferred from my accounts without my consent.”

Gasps.

Whispers.

Madison stepped back.

Joan finally snapped.

“This is private—”

But he continued.

“Not just money.”

He held up another page.

“Manipulation. Identity misuse. And intentional financial fraud.”

The room erupted in shock.

I couldn’t breathe.

Joan’s face turned pale.

For the first time since I had known her—

she looked afraid.

My father turned to her.

May you like

And said something I will never forget.

“You didn’t just destroy my daughter’s wedding dress.”
“You destroyed this family years ago.”
