We walked downstairs in silence.
160 guests waited.
Music was playing.
Champagne was poured.
Nobody knew the storm walking toward them.
Joan leaned toward me as we descended.
âYou think heâs going to choose you over us?â
Madison whispered behind her.
âSheâs always been dramatic.â
But when we reached the ballroom doorsâ
everything stopped.
My father stepped forward.
And held up the envelope.
âBefore this wedding continues,â he said,
âeveryone deserves the truth.â
A murmur ran through the room.
Then he opened it.
Inside were documents.
Bank records.
Emails.
