Dr. Preston admitted falsifying Richard’s death certificate.
Thomas Vale explained how Lorraine used Evelyn’s identity to hide money.

Then Claire testified.
She described the glowing stove.
She described Ethan holding her wrist.

The defense attorney asked why she remained in the marriage.
Claire looked at the jury.
“Because abuse does not begin with a burning stove.”
“It begins with a door blocked during an argument.”
“It begins with a bank card that stops working.”

“It becomes normal one small surrender at a time.”
The courtroom remained silent.
The attorney asked whether Claire was seeking revenge.
“No.”
“What are you seeking?”

Lorraine chose to testify.

“I gave them better lives.”

“She threatened everyone.”
“Did it require watching Claire Morgan’s hand burn?”
Lorraine looked toward Claire.
“She was destroying my son.”
The prosecutor paused.
“Your son destroyed her.”
For the first time, Lorraine lost control.
She shouted that Claire had poisoned Ethan against her.
She called Richard weak.
She called Rosa ungrateful.
She called the victims parasites.
The jury saw the woman beneath the silk, wine, and carefully measured voice.
The verdict arrived after nine hours.
Guilty.
Fraud.
Racketeering.
Conspiracy.
Kidnapping.
Evidence tampering.
Attempted murder.
The murder of Evelyn Morgan would be tried separately.
Lorraine remained standing as each verdict was read.
At sentencing, the judge imposed life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Lorraine turned toward Claire as officers approached.
“You think you won?”
Claire looked at her.
“No.”
“I survived.”

Ethan received twelve years after pleading guilty and cooperating.
