Chapter 3 – The Woman Behind the Conspiracy

The call lasted only six seconds.

"Phase Two."

Vivian's voice remained perfectly calm.

"Kill the backup witnesses."

She ended the call before the man on the other end could answer.

Then she walked to her bedroom window and watched rain pour across the Castillo estate.

Three years.

Three carefully orchestrated years.

She hadn't survived this long by panicking.

If Alejandro was finally asking questions...

She would simply remove everyone capable of answering them.

Downstairs...

Alejandro refused to let go of Elena's hand.

She sat wrapped in a blanket inside the mansion's private medical suite while doctors treated old injuries one after another.

A fractured rib that had healed crooked.

Scars from restraints around both wrists.

Signs of prolonged sedation.

The lead physician quietly pulled Alejandro aside.

"Mr. Castillo..."

He lowered his voice.

"We found traces of long-term exposure to memory-suppressing medication."

Alejandro frowned.

"What kind?"

"The dosage wasn't enough to erase memories permanently."

The doctor sighed.

"It was designed to confuse them."

"Could she recover completely?"

"With time."

He hesitated.

"But emotional trauma is harder to heal than chemical damage."

Alejandro looked through the glass window.

Elena sat silently staring at the rain.

She wasn't broken.

She was exhausted.

His phone vibrated.

Security Alert.

One of the estate's elderly gardeners had been found unconscious near the greenhouse.

Poison.

Alejandro ran.

The old man was barely breathing when Alejandro reached him.

An oxygen mask covered his face.

His hands shook violently.

He grabbed Alejandro's sleeve with surprising strength.

"Sir..."

"You don't have to talk."

The gardener forced the words out anyway.

"She..."

"Cameras..."

"Kitchen..."

Then his heart monitor erupted into a flat tone.

The medical team rushed forward.

Too late.

The old gardener was dead.

Alejandro slowly closed the man's eyes.

Another witness...

Gone.

Within minutes...

The mansion became a crime scene.

Police officers filled every hallway.

Forensic teams dusted every surface.

Detectives questioned the servants individually.

Vivian appeared devastated.

She even cried.

"It breaks my heart," she whispered to detectives.

"He was like family."

Alejandro watched from across the room.

Not one tear touched her makeup.

An hour later...

The kitchen cameras were recovered.

Someone had attempted to erase the footage.

But Alejandro's cybersecurity division restored it.

The video played.

The elderly gardener quietly handed a small envelope to a teenage kitchen maid.

Seconds later...

A man wearing a maintenance uniform slipped poison into the gardener's tea.

No one noticed.

Except...

The kitchen maid.

She saw everything.

"Where is she?"

Alejandro demanded.

No one answered.

Every servant looked confused.

The head housekeeper suddenly went pale.

"She was cleaning the west hallway..."

They searched the estate.

Nothing.

Her room.

Empty.

Her uniform.

Gone.

Her employee file.

Missing.

Someone had taken her.

Meanwhile...

Thirty miles outside the city...

A black SUV raced down a deserted highway.

Inside...

The terrified kitchen maid sat handcuffed beside two men.

Tears streamed down her face.

"I didn't tell anyone!"

One man smiled.

"You don't have to."

He pulled out a silenced pistol.

A deafening explosion shattered the silence.

Not gunfire.

A tire.

The SUV swerved violently before crashing into a ditch.

Black armored vehicles surrounded it from every direction.

Alejandro's private security team.

The rescue lasted less than forty seconds.

Both kidnappers surrendered.

The frightened maid collapsed into tears.

She kept repeating the same sentence.

"I didn't mean to hear them..."

Alejandro knelt beside her.

"Hear who?"

She looked around fearfully.

Then whispered...

"Miss Vivian..."

"...and your uncle."

Alejandro froze.

"My uncle?"

"The night Mrs. Castillo disappeared."

The girl's voice trembled.

"I heard them arguing."

"They kept saying..."

She swallowed hard.

"'If Elena signs the papers, we won't need to drug her.'"

Alejandro felt his stomach twist.

"What papers?"

"I don't know."

"But..."

"They said..."

"...the company couldn't belong to her."

Everything suddenly made sense.

Not his hotels.

Not his fortune.

Elena had inherited something else.

Something worth kidnapping for.

Back inside the mansion...

Alejandro opened a forgotten safe inside Elena's old office.

Most files had already been removed.

One envelope remained hidden behind a false panel.

Inside...

Original incorporation documents.

His eyes widened.

The luxury hotel empire everyone called Castillo International...

Had never legally belonged to him.

It belonged to Elena.

She had inherited controlling ownership from her late grandfather before their marriage.

Alejandro had managed the company.

Expanded it.

Built it into a global empire.

But legally...

She owned 62% of everything.

If Elena disappeared...

Control would pass to...

Alejandro's closest surviving blood relative.

His uncle.

Rafael Castillo.

Chairman of the Board.

The man who had comforted Alejandro throughout the entire three-year search.

The same man who had encouraged him never to lose hope.

The same man who had secretly financed Vivian's charities.

Alejandro slowly leaned back in his chair.

His own family.

His own blood.

Just then...

The front gates opened.

A silver limousine rolled into the driveway.

Rafael Castillo stepped out carrying a bouquet of white lilies.

He looked every bit the grieving uncle.

Sophisticated.

Silver-haired.

Perfectly tailored suit.

Concern painted across his face.

He embraced Alejandro.

"My boy..."

"I came as soon as I heard Elena was found."

Alejandro didn't return the hug.

Rafael noticed.

Only for a second.

Then he smiled warmly.

"Where is she?"

Alejandro studied him.

For years...

He would have trusted this man with his life.

Today...

He noticed something new.

Rafael wasn't looking for Elena.

He was looking around the room.

Searching.

For something.

Or someone.

Vivian.

Their eyes met for less than half a second.

Barely noticeable.

But Alejandro saw it.

A silent conversation.

A warning.

That evening...

Alejandro invited everyone into the mansion's grand ballroom.

Police detectives.

Lawyers.

Board members.

Household staff.

Even Rafael.

Vivian stood quietly near the fireplace.

Still pretending to be innocent.

Alejandro walked to the center of the room.

"I've spent three years looking for my wife."

His voice echoed through the ballroom.

"I believed a stranger had taken her."

He paused.

"I was wrong."

The room became silent.

"The person responsible..."

He looked directly at Vivian.

"...was inside this house."

Vivian lowered her eyes.

Exactly as an innocent person might.

Then Alejandro continued.

"And the person who paid her..."

His gaze slowly shifted across the room.

Until it stopped.

On Rafael Castillo.

The bouquet slipped from Rafael's hand.

Flowers scattered across the polished floor.

For the first time in decades...

The chairman of Castillo International looked afraid.

But before anyone could speak...

Every light inside the mansion suddenly went out.

Darkness swallowed the ballroom.

A single gunshot echoed through the estate.

Someone screamed.

When the emergency lights flickered back on...

Vivian was gone.

And Rafael Castillo was lying on the floor...

Bleeding from his chest.

May you like

Clutched tightly in his dying hand...

Was a small voice recorder.
