Chapter 4 — The Truth Behind Isabella's Silence

Outside, rain began falling against the ballroom windows.

Inside, Isabella finally spoke.

"I wasn't silent because I was weak."

Everyone listened.

"I stayed because Ethan controlled every account I owned."

She slowly rolled back the sleeve of her gown.

A long scar stretched across her forearm.

"He told me if I left, my younger brother would disappear."

A detective nodded.

"We've already rescued him."

The room froze.

Claire continued.

"Mr. Caldwell kept him under illegal surveillance through a private security company."

Another investigator carried in several storage boxes.

Inside were journals.

Medical records.

Photographs.

Voice recordings spanning years.

Every bruise.

Every threat.

Every apology Ethan forced Isabella to accept.

She had documented everything.

Not for revenge.

For survival.

Ethan tried one last time.

"You'll ruin your own reputation."

Isabella smiled for the first time in years.

"My reputation isn't the one being arrested tonight."

The lead detective stepped forward.

"Ethan Caldwell..."

He read the charges slowly.

Assault.

Fraud.

Money laundering.

Witness tampering.

Obstruction of justice.

The handcuffs clicked shut.

The sound echoed beneath the crystal chandeliers.
