Chapter 2 — The Footage Nobody Was Supposed to See

The ballroom doors opened.

Not dramatically.

Quietly.

A woman in a navy suit walked inside carrying a sealed evidence case.

Behind her came two digital forensic investigators and three detectives.

Conversation stopped instantly.

The woman introduced herself.

"My name is Claire Donovan."

She placed a badge on the table.

"Financial Crimes Division."

Ethan laughed.

"This is absurd."

Claire ignored him.

She turned toward the ballroom's enormous LED display—the same screen meant to showcase Ethan's charitable foundation.

One technician connected a secure drive.

The screen flickered.

Instead of Caldwell Foundation advertisements...

A timestamp appeared.

Eight nights earlier.

The footage came from Ethan's own penthouse.

The guests watched Isabella enter the living room.

She wasn't screaming.

She wasn't threatening him.

She simply asked one question.

"Who is the woman you transferred thirty million dollars to?"

Ethan's face on the screen transformed.

His charming smile disappeared.

He shoved Isabella into a marble fireplace hard enough to crack the stone.

Gasps echoed through the ballroom.

Another clip played.

This one showed Ethan ordering security guards to erase recordings.

A third clip.

He instructed his chief financial officer to disguise illegal transfers through fake humanitarian projects.

The ballroom became perfectly silent.

Nobody reached for another drink.

Nobody defended him.

The only sound came from Ethan himself.

"Those videos are edited!"

Claire calmly answered,

"We recovered them from the backup server your own IT director forgot existed."

Then she added,

"And they've already been authenticated."

For the first time in twenty years...

Ethan Caldwell looked afraid.
