Chapter 9 - THE BOARDROOM THEY THOUGHT THEY OWNED

Victor called an emergency Crosshaven shareholder meeting from his law office.

Celeste joined through her attorney.

Graham appeared by secured video from the hospital.

Damien attended without the chief executive title.

Nora entered as representative of the employee pension committee.

Victor objected.

“She is household staff.”

Nora placed the pension trust agreement on the table.

“Employees have observer rights during any meeting involving suspected misuse of retirement funds.”

Victor looked toward Graham.

Graham had drafted the clause years earlier.

He never expected workers to use it against him.

Victor presented Dr. Lucas Arden’s incapacity report.

He displayed the terrace video showing Damien shoving Celeste into the pool.

He displayed photographs of Damien unconscious after drugged drinks.

He argued that Crosshaven needed temporary leadership.

Celeste would control Damien’s shares.

Victor would supervise operations.

Nora opened the independent camera footage.

The full scene played.

Celeste planting the money.

Striking Nora.

Standing on her hand.

Demanding the account copies.

Damien entering.

The pool shove.

The board saw context instead of a carefully cut clip.

Then Nora presented the transfers.

Thirty-four million from pensions.

Twenty-one million from development reserves.

Nine million from employee medical accounts.

Victor’s companies appeared on every list.

Graham identified his approvals.

“I signed them.”

“Victor designed them.”

“Celeste provided Damien’s credentials.”

Damien spoke last.

“I am not asking to return as chief executive.”

“I am asking the board not to give control to the people accused of drugging me and stealing from employees.”

Victor interrupted.

“You are allowing a maid to destroy a family company.”

Nora looked at him.

“No.”

“Your family used workers’ money to finance a takeover.”

“We are describing what you built.”

The employee-trust director called for a vote.

Celeste’s shares were frozen under the criminal-conduct clause.

Victor held no direct shares.

Graham’s voting rights were suspended.

The independent directors removed every Arden representative.

Employees received three permanent board seats.

The vote passed unanimously.

Victor stared at Damien.

“You will lose everything.”
